I am the principal engineer for Gordon & Gordon Engineering, a design, analysis, and forensic investigation firm with 30 years of engineering experience in space programs, aviation, manufacturing, assembly, and failure analyses.I am a licensed Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, Utah, & Washington professional engineer and have several design approvals for tooling to support aircraft and spacecraft manufacture, assembly, and servicing.I am a Consultant Designated Engineering Representative for Parts 23, 25, 27, & 29 (all airplanes and rotorcraft) with full structures approval in Static Analysis, Design & Construction, Service Documents, Materials & Processes Specifications, Flammability, Fire Protection, and Major Repair/Major Alteration.I have a litigation support case history for forensic engineering involving matters of consumer products, general aviation, commercial aviation, rotorcraft, as well as extensive involvement with the STS-107 Space Shuttle Columbia accident investigation (including reconstruction & expert testimonies).I also perform domestic and international consulting on materials and process solutions and opportunities in a wide variety of markets.I worked at Piper Aircraft for 12 years as the Quality and Process Engineering Director where I was responsible for Liaison Engineering, Materials & Processes, Calibration, Nondestructive Evaluation, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling, NC Programming, Technical Training, Industrial Engineering, Methods & Planning, Continuous Improvement, Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, and Supplier Quality.I served 18 years on the Space Shuttle Program as the subsystem manager (SSM) of the Orbiter Leading Edge Structural Subsystem – including all reinforced carbon-carbon (RCC) heatshield components, their attachment, and internal insulation. I supported the Program for a total of 85 missions (STS-50 to STS-132).I was an adjunct professor prior to the Columbia mishap and was selected as an ABET Program Evaluator for Mechanical Engineering with 8 domestic and 2 international program evaluation assignments to date.I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a MS in Aerospace Engineering (Structures & Materials) from the Florida Institute of Technology.
