This involved benchmarking new processor solutions and wifi chipsets to select the components, electronic design, and management of outsourced PCB CAD to make the board a drop-in replacement interfacing with the peripherals (cameras, audio, display etc.), thermal evaluation and management of ME contractor to design and manufacture a custom heatsink, selection and management of a wifi antenna designer, prototyping the robot, certification testing and solving EMC issues, manufacturing partner selection, creative component sourcing including grey market, manufacturing test design and implementation, training the factory to debug failures and improve quality and yield, and selection and management of 3PL provider. In the end the robot with the new mainboard was in production and fully certified for US and Canada, with CE and UK CA marking also nearly complete.

At first this meant a very hands-on role designing electronic circuits and reviewing those of external electronic and mechanical design partners. In time I recruited our own team of electronic and mechanical engineers and oversaw the development and validation from both a managerial and technical leadership position. I worked closely with the VP of Manufacturing and his team including supply chain and QA in a relentless drive to reduce cost and increase quality, and with the Software teams particularly Platform and other bottom-of-stack disciplines.I additionally took on the responsibility for all manufacturing NPI encompassing production line processes and test, requiring frequent visits to our contract manufacturer in China to achieve complete test coverage and ever improving yields.Jibo was on the front cover of Time Magazine as one of their Top 25 Innovations of 2017 and launched to the public in November 2017. -
