Managed a small team supporting a directorate that includes: Adult Social Care, Housing, Leisure, Community Safety and Regulatory Services.Aside from the regular support offered as a communications team a major part of this year was to identify savings that could be made within the directorate. I was able to identify savings from each of the budget managers in the directorate to meet the targets set form the corporate leadership team and take pressures off other teams. Worked with our Finance team and service leads to move all communications budgets so I managed them all directly, becoming a gatekeeper for spend. This enabled me to monitor and find further savings where appropriate whilst still supporting services to efficiently communicate with customers.

Initially supporting a specific service (Direct Payments) within Adult Social Care but over time my remit expanded to include all of Adult Social Care and following a shuffle around of teams the Housing Service was added. Day to day tasks included pulling together good news stories, reactive press statements, reviewing publications, management and maintenance of Social Care and Housing web pages and arranging events. All of which involved liaising with internal and external designers/printers, local media, local councillors, partner organisations and senior managers. Some key achievements included: - Part of the team that set up the Milton Keynes Disability Advisory Group, providing a voice for people with disabilities in MK (the group is still going strong today). - Ensured minimum standards were adapted to written publications that abide by RNIB’s rules to ensure accessibility was maximised.- Leading on council rebrand for Social Care and Housing.- Leading on web review for Social Care and Housing.- Communications lead for high profile consultations, working closely with Assistant Directors.
