Born in Sarria (Lugo), Miguel received his degree in Chemistry from the Universidade da Coruña (2006) where he initiated his scientific career through a collaboration grant in the department of Fundamental Chemistry. After completion of a Master in Fundamental and Environmental Chemistry in 2007 at the same university, he joined the research group of Professors José Pérez Sestelo and Luis A. Sarandeses to perform doctoral studies, obtaining the corresponding extraordinary thesis award (2011). During that time, he performed a predoctoral stay in the research group of Professor Steven V. Ley at University of Cambridge. Then, after a period as a contracted researcher at the Universidade da Coruña, he joined the group of Professor Matthias Beller (Leibniz Institut für Katalyse e. V. an der Universität Rostock, Germany) in 2013 as postdoctoral associate funded by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, a Marie Curie Action (Intra-European Fellowship) and a Leibniz Fellowship. He returned to Spain to work as contracted researcher at Universidade de Vigo with Professor Ángel R. de Lera. Miguel was later awarded with a Juan de la Cierva-Incorporation contract to join the Institut Catalá d’Investigació Química at the research group of Professor Antonio M. Echavarren. Notably, he was ranked number one among 116 applicants.
