I coach clients in new business development through market analysis and segmentation, identification of value added by new products, and business case development. I develop go-to-market strategies, evaluate capital investment to improve efficiency and product quality, and identify potential partners.

I managed the Catalyst Division’s R&D portfolio, focusing on Marketing processes for strategic alignment, market research and business case development. I coach Marketing colleagues on project management and portfolio KPIs, business case development, identification of value propositions and strategic alignment. I served on BASF’s North American Technology Scouting team. I identified an external material which met internal needs; that material is the key enabler for a new product that will launch in 2018. Accomplishments• Business process improvement - Transformed the R&D budget process into an R&D portfolio management process. Aligned roles and responsibilities, increased alignment with strategic market forecasts, raised compliance with project management requirements to >85%, and standardized risk assessment.• Technology Scout - Identified the fit of an external material offered by a startup company with an internal technical need. This resulted in a new product expected to launch in 2018 with annual revenue forecast of >$6Mio in 2020.• Product development & customer interaction –Served for three years as the technical liaison with three engine manufacturers for the integration of a novel emission control technology into diesel emission systems. Completed each design verification process on time and within budget.• Operations improvement – Led a continuous improvement initiative at BASF Engine Testing Lab. Achieved target testing output from most requested asset, initiated cross training to increase pool of qualified operators and to reduce overall staffing requirements.

I served on the North American Innovation Team and its Technology Scouting team. I worked closely with Strategy, Marketing and R&D colleagues to identify their key technology needs, brought them filtered, relevant leads from key universities, start-ups and government labs. Most recently, the match led to a new product which enabled us to enter an unserved adjacent market. This product has completed pilot testing and will launch in 2018 with forecast revenue >$6Mio in 2020. I interacted with external licensing officers, and I have a great deal of experience in IP (Intellectual Property) Management. Externally, I coached scouts on legal issues regarding IP ownership and confidentiality with external organizations, and I introduced colleagues to support tools to search IP activities of competitors, start-ups, and universities. Internally, I collaborated with Legal and Strategy colleagues to create a comprehensive guide for aligning R&D project timelines with IP filing timelines and for identifying internal decision makers. I also helped Marketing colleagues to identify revenues from various technologies and to prioritize technologies for continued support and defense. I am also a member of the University Industry Development Partnership.I led the Communication function of the Technology Scouting team across North America. I created newsletters, semiannual scouting workshops, and frequent webinars with universities and external organizations. These webinars enabled scouts to see more sources without significant travel and effort for the scouts. I also scouted within BASF to help colleagues gain access to internal resources and technologies. I partnered with other scouts to create a high-level Technology Landscape for 2030 and beyond. The goal was to identify key research areas in which universities were engaged that would be important in future years. Worked with external information providers to gather, filter and analyze data.

I trained engineers and technicians in efficiency methods and process mapping. I spearheaded the development and implementation of a technician cross-training process, which doubled the number of qualified operators for the most constrained test cell. Subsequently achieved daily testing goals while reducing the technician staff 30%.

I served as the key technical contact between four major diesel engine manufacturers and BASF’s engineering and supply chain teams for the design of a high-profile, new technology emission reduction catalyst. Collaborated with customers to create detailed performance objectives and acceptance criteria for high-risk initiatives. I also led a team of three engineers and five technicians to develop catalysts for heavy duty diesel emissions control. Conducted catalyst performance testing and extensive data analysis in highly instrumented test cells to identify gaps in performance and knowledge.
