PROJECT DESCRIPTIONInnovative start-up project to produce an inexpensive hand held wireless communicator for K-12 school classrooms. The student communicators are networked to a base station running a custom classroom information system program. The PC-based classroom information system has a feature-rich GUI and manages communication with the hand held units for attendance, test taking and other messaging. The system also manages records for attendance, grades and data for standards-based testing such as Florida's FCAT and Sunshine State Standards. Application updates are delivered by Java Web Start.ENVIRONMENTWindows and Linux workstations, Java JDK/J2SE, JDBC, HSQLDB, Swing GUI , JFC, Java Web Start, Netbeans, serial communications with RXTX package, also C on Atmel AVR 8 bit microprocessor.ROLEI provided technical leadership to improve the design and keep the project on track. Includes software, database design and coding in Java and C.

Technical and design support to increase efficiency of team supporting the document management system project that I previously headed at AverStar, Inc.

As Team Leader, I lead the development team. I worked with the customer to determine product priorities and review specifications. I had responsibility to research, specify, design, implement (coding in C and Perl), document, and support.

As the Senior Team Member I had primary responsibility for continued design of the system as well as implementation duties programming in C and Perl. All major enhancements were accomplished through a rigorous process of formal documentation and team review for requirements definition, specification, and design.

As a team member I had primary responsibility for configuration management, pre-release testing, debugging, and bug-fixing. I provided second-line technical support for the product. I also added several new product features, Electronic delivery and installation procedures, and tools to ensure data integrity.

As a team member I provided System/370 knowledge to the team,I designed and implemented a set of configuration control and production shell-scripts for cross-development of a 370 native compiler and library on UNIX/VAX. I also developed automated procedures for testing on CMS and MVS, using REXX and JCL. During and after the initial project I became involved in the diagnosis and resolution of problems in the system interface portion of the C library code. I also interpreted error reports, which required knowledge of the ANSI C library standard and System/370 file input-output considerations, and programming of test cases in C.
