Matthew is the Chief Technology Officer at Harbor.ai, managing a team of data scientists and engineers to improve the efficiency of insurance transactions through the use of artificial intelligence. He is also a member of the Forbes Technology Council, a research director with MLCommons Research, and a member of the AI council for Virtual Protocols.As a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University in the Edge Computing Lab, Matthew’s main area of research focused on the development of embedded machine learning (aka. TinyML), machine learning sensors, and lifetime-aware system design. He also managed multiple projects, including a silicon photonics-based autonomous vehicle, the design and manufacture of flexible microprocessors, large language models for hardware-software co-design, benchmarking tools for robotics and reinforcement learning, and neuromorphic computing.His Ph.D. work focused on analyzing biogenic emissions in the Amazon Rainforest using UAV-based intelligent gas sensing systems augmented with computational chemistry and quantum chemical machine learning methods.Matthew also has research experience in medical data science, time series modeling, and systems development, as well as expertise in e-learning, technical writing, and science communication.
