Hi my name is Giovanni. I have been teaching English as a secondly language for 4 years now. I started my teacher's journey in Thailand. I taught secondary school students. Classes were rather large, between 40 to 50 students per class. I learned alot from that experience most importantly to be flexible and adaptable. After a short break back home in South Africa I set out to Hong Kong.For my first year in Hong Kong I was a supply teacher. At first I wasn't pleased with this position but later on I saw as it the best move I could have made. Hong Kong was and is vastly different to Thailand. I quickly had to master new methods of delivering lessons. Also as a supply teacher it meant studying lesson material for several schools at a time in the event that I was needed at a few schools per week. Some work weeks were abit crazy, travelling from one school to the next but I was having fun doing what I love. After being a supply teach for a year I found, with the help of my company, a permanent position as an ELTA. Some of my teacher duties included the following: Creating lessons plans for ESL, PLPRW, STEM and delivering thos lessons. During the COVID lockdown I assisted my fellow teachers by creating google forms for their lessons as my own, provided video editing assistance and participated in Zoom lessons. I have also been an ESL camp leader and MC at an overnight school event. Before venturing into teaching I sought out a carreer in IT. Although I enjoyed my time as a technician the world of technology soon became less appealing. I spent a few years in retail before taking up a job as a contact center representative for the company iiNET. I was back in the world of IT with a focus on internet support. I loved this job but the feelings I had about the field soon crept in again. My old team and manager gave me alot of support but I was letting them down. My girlfriend, now wife, jested that we should teach overseas. We both realized that we where not as happy as we wanted to be in our current carreers and made the move to Thailand.
