I started work in telecom in the USAF. My technical school taught me the building blocks of electronics and communications. My first tour in Afghanistan is where I really honed my skills as a technician and a leader. The situations weren't ideal, we weren't blessed with tons of resources, and I was the sole network technician in a 20 mile radius. In tremendous heat and tense circumstance I became the region's lowest-ranking SME on many electronic systems like Harris radios, Call Manager Express, Cisco switching and routing, LOS radio and SNAP satellite terminals. Once you've called in a helicopter med-evac from an ambush site, dealing with an ISP doesn't seem so difficult. After my tours abroad and my military service at Moody AFB, GA, I decided to take my talents in a new direction. I was hired by The (wonderful) Coca Cola Company as a contractor in March of 2014 on the Network team. As a network contractor, I worked on a plethora of projects, ranging from contract verifications by individual serial number to negotiate a good price with Cisco, to installing a multi-level shop-floor project pilot in my first 5 months. That pilot has been replicated 50 times across the globe. In May of 2015 I was hired on as a FTE as the Voice Operations Lead. Under great tutelage from peers and managers, I was allowed to flourish and thrive. I was encouraged to hone my technical skills, interpersonal and vendor relations, and management and leadership traits. I was eventually the lead technician/project manager for all new TCCC installs, nearly 50 completed from top to bottom. Negotiating telecom circuits with providers, managing cabling vendors, and traveling to sites to install Cisco routers and switches and managing the team assisting with all these actions, I was intimate with the process of turning up a new network.
