About Mahmudur Rahman
I am a researcher with expertise in transportation safety research. I am particularly interested in studying driver experience, attitude, and behaviors associated with vehicle automation. I have designed and conducted several scientific studies, received funding for multiple research projects, and authored a number of peer-reviewed scientific articles.My research vision is to become a subject matter expert on human factors issues related to vehicle automation. I would like to focus on understanding the needs of the drivers and other road users, finding engineering and behavioral interventions, and implementing evidence-based road safety measures to reduce crashes. The key questions that I would like to answer are related to driver experience, acceptance, and their use of self-driving vehicles, the impact of vehicle automation on overall road safety, and pedestrian-self-driving vehicle interaction. I would like to know whether the drivers will trust vehicle automation technologies, spend money to purchase self-driving vehicles or adopt transportation services that uses self-driving vehicles, and use them appropriately in traffic. I would also like to know how pedestrians and other road users will behave in the presence of a self-driving vehicle and the necessity of external features of these vehicles to effectively communicate with different road users. In addition, I would like to study the application of self-driving vehicles to provide safe and convenient services to older adults and disabled people.
