About Miquel Ràmia-Jesús
Biologist, Bioinformatician, PhD in Genomics, Scientific Communicator and curator, and Self-learner.Moved from Population Genomics to Clinical and Personal Genomics at Made of Genes (Genomcore S.L.), a genomics start-up company with the mission of making true the promise of the personalized medicine, democratizing access to genomic data for everyone. We are working to connect researchers, physicians and patients so all of them can benefit from -omics data and from interacting with each other. Also expanding my knowledge about state-of-the-art of genetic testing, market applications of genomics, clinical actionability of genomic data, molecular causes of disease in humans and gene-disease associations.As a bioinformatician I'm one of those that, with a biologist background, learned how to code, the most part during my PhD working on population genomics. I have some working knowledge essentially about scripting languages, relational databases and web-tool developement in linux enviroments. I have experience in teaching, as a grade and MSc teacher, and also outside university communicating science to broader audiences. I have a real interest in honing my scientific communication skills, and a growing interest in data analysis, specially the creative aspects of data visualization/storytelling. When I’m not doing science I like to nourish my creative side with activities like photography (sort of a portfolio here at http://lilowl.me) or music, playing guitar or singing. Or enjoying time with my people, a book, a movie, tv series, a video-game, learning a language or some new skill, working out with calisthenics or absorbed in some DiY project.
