Anil Sethi is a serial entrepreneur and investor in the medical area with repeated success across four decades of founding and leading companies. Among his nine health-tech companies there have been multiple exits including both an IPO and M&As. Gliimpse (2013) was acquired by Apple (2016) and became a core technology for their digital health applications. He then founded Ciitizen (2017), a patient-controlled platform for cancer and rare disease patients to digitize and share medical data for matching to clinical trials and improved treatments and research. Ciitizen was venture funded by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Verily, and was acquired by Invitae in 2021. Anil is a partner in Andreessen Horowitz’s Bio Fund III-Q, L.P., an Advisor to Nina Capital and invests through his family office Sethi Family, LLC. Most recently Anil is the founder of Selfii. Anil’s younger sister, Tania, died from hepatic complications following stage IV metastatic breast cancer, and Anil has dedicated his career to the elimination of cancer as we know it. To keep a deathbed promise to Tania, Anil founded Ciitizen (an NVTA company). Ciitizen has partnered with LLS USA, Touch, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance, STBPX1, and other incredible patient advocacy organizations who believe in the power of patient consented data sharing to drive change. Having suffered the death of his little sister in 2017 then his father in 2021, each at the hands of cancer, Anil is mission driven to kill this monster. His wife accuses him of being a “car guy.”

Founder/Chief Executive OfficerSelfii Dec 2023 - PresentSelfiie is at the forefront of a billion-dollar transformation in healthcare. AI has accelerated even our own expectations for time-to-market towards the Knowledge Graph of health. Backed by an expert team with unmatched achievements and an unparalleled track record of success in each critical aspect of the company’s business. By converting patient-consented clinical documents into a comprehensive medical database of reliable facts, search results will soon be filtered through the lens of each patient. In 2025, we aim to implement automated clinical trial matching, an area in which we’re particularly strong. And, our leverage of real patient data will be used to generate vast volumes of synthetic data that are statistically identical but devoid of PHI concerns, thus expediting clinical research and the development of AI, LLMs, consumer apps, and bio-simulations. These innovations will drive exponential revenue growth through our marketplace, where monetization happens only with patient-consent. With our AI, being trained on data from 128 million individuals across all therapeutic areas, we’re cementing a formidable lead over competitors. As Andreessen Horowitz writes, “The biggest company in the world will be a consumer health-tech company.” We’re building the foundation for a global, patient-consented data business, firmly believing this race to be ‘winner-takes-all.’ -
InvestorLumiinus Dec 2023 - PresentLumiinus is the first precision-health platform to deliver lab-grade diagnostics using native smartphone technology. The idea of putting chemistry "inside a small box" is flawed, and will never work. Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) is the right approach—don't mistake it for simplistic optics or taking a snapshot with a smartphone, which is ineffective. Our platform brings us closer to the capabilities of the Star Trek tricorder, beginning with colorectal cancer (CRC) detection. -
InvestorAcoustiic, Inc. Nov 2017 - Present“FUS is a new, totally non-invasive therapeutic tech that can transform the treatment of a large number of serious medical disorders by serving as a an alternative or a complement to traditional surgery and radiotherpy, a whole new way of delivering drugs more safely and effectively, and a whole new way or enhancing immunotherapy, resulting in a a revolution in therapy of the same order of magnitude as MR scanning, as a an example, resulted in a revolution in diagnosis…Most important advance in therapy since the scapel” — Dr. Neal Kassell, the Founder and Chairman of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation.Acoustiic has developed a next-gen device for incisionless surgery, targeted drug delivery past the blood brain barrier, a range of neuro disorders including Parkinson’s, depression, addiction and a therapeutic intervention for the early detection of cancer. The use of HIFU is similar to using a magnifying glass to focus the rays of the sun to burn paper. But instead of focusing light waves through a glass lens, sound is focused through an electronic or acoustic lens to concentrate otherwise harmless sound waves onto tiny tissues located deep inside the body. There is no surgery, chemo, ionizing radiation nor anesthesia. Acoustiic offers a non-invasive and out-patient procedure with few side-effects. No drama, no trauma. -

Founder/Chief Executive OfficerCiitizen Sep 2017 - Sep 2021San Francisco, California, UsThe Ciitizen team is an Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) portfolio company and has developed an AI-driven platform (not an app) that creates unique, digitized, structured data from unstructured medical records (from physician notes). Having developed an extensive machine learning pipeline, research-grade clinical data can be abstracted in a matter of minutes (instead of days and weeks). Deep data to power automated matching with clinical trials and research into complex and rare neurological disorders. Think Flatiron grade data but automated, at the n-of-1 level with the ability to always recontact the patient (or a care team member). The Company has created a two-sided platform which autocreates a full longitudinal health history, always up to date, allowing apps, sites and AIs to built on top of ‘consented’ data for patients, providers and researchers. The Company is ideally positioned with established, de-risked technology and a rare window of opportunity based on market conditions, industry tailwinds, and recent regulatory changes (2021 Cures Act) to power all digital health applications and experiences both for patients and providers. Biotech has begun to purchase an ARR subscription for deepest, n-of-1 longitudinal and, with patient consent, searchable database which maps patient phenotype to their genotype. Not lost on progressive life-scince partners, ML automation for data extraction rivaling the likes of Flatiron creates massive differentiation and a clear moat. A lifelong relationship with each patient aggregates data from any care setting, unlocking massive value relative to deidentified EHR records. With a 100+ person unicorn team, the company is revenue positive, growing its ARR data subscriptions from 20,000 consented patients. And with the recent acquisition of IP/technology embedded in the US network of Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) the company expects to help 92% of all US patients gain access to their longitudinal health records. -

Founder/Chief Executive OfficerGliimpse, Inc. 2013 - 2016I work in healthcare, without getting blood on my chucks. I'm helping my little sister manage her Stage IV Breast Cancer diagnosis, through data. As a consumer of healthcare, I leave behind a bread-crumb-trail of medical info wherever I’ve been seen. But, I'm unable to easily access or share my own data. Obamacare is one of several forcing functions federally mandating physicians and hospitals give us our data: meds, labs, allergies ... you get the idea. However, there’s no single Electronic Health Record that all physicians use, sigh. Worse, there isn't even a common file format across a 1000+ systems.Enter Gliimpse: your personal health data, in the palm of your hands. Better than portals, we enable patients to collect their lifelong history, so they can share it with their care network – physicians, friends and family.Gliimpse solved the hardest medical data problem, aggregation plus standardization. Our product collects data from medical portals – without human intervention – combined with self-entered plus wearable info, all shared with others. Through Oauth & APIs, partners can build consumer and analytic apps. We're a team of self-funded entrepreneurs with deep roots in Healthcare, Apple to SAP, IPOs and startup exits returning $400MM to employees and investors. Our CEO's Kaiser deployment scaled millions of patient lives. This time, think MUCH bigger; 317,000,000 Gliimpse users. If you gotta work at the intersection of personal-health, mobility and solving wicked problems, all to save lives, lets chat. Consumers will transform US Healthcare to lower costs, enhance patient-physician collaboration, and…improve health! We'll do well, by doing good. Together.

Founder/Chief Executive OfficerPinch Bio 2010 - 2013We're out to "hack obesity" through a once-a-day pill for the reduction of belly fat in middle-aged men and women. The company is pursuing an alternative and accelerated FDA regulatory path, to bring an Rx obesity drug to market, in 10X less time, and 100X less cost. We're pursuing a metabolic approach to solve obesity. As opposed to simply reformulating a neurological cocktail of anti-seizure drugs, just because it serves patent and IP concerns. Oh yeah, we think its okay to be both capitalists and idealists—to do good, and do well—as a "not just for profit" biotech.

Founder/Chief Executive OfficerXlipstream 2001 - 2004Xlipstream pioneered a new class of plug-n-play XML integration appliances which automate interoperability between disparate data silos. Sethi also learned that "if you're ahead of the market, you're ahead of the revenue." The startup successfully shipped product, but ultimately we shuddered the company (but retained IP). In 2002, working with a team of ex-Sequoia, ex-Citrix, and ex-Sourcefire, the company completed a functional FPGA prototype (IC chip) of it's embedded softcore technology. Xlipstream completed R&D, multiple product commercializations, through first revenue install at the DoD in Q4'03, raising $1.75M in private seed funding. Xlipstream hardware appliances are simple plug-n-play solutions to remediate HIPAA insurance claims for provider billing applications. The Johns Hopkins NICU and Xlipstream successfully installed a "universal hardware adapter" for capturing printed data from closed medical devices, exporting to modern clinical applications. -
