About Callum Clark
Hi! I'm Callum. I'm an experienced humanitarian manager trying to do my little bit of good in the world. From 2018-2022 I worked for New Zealand Red Cross before stepping away to have a year abroad in Peru. I returned to NZRC in March 2023. Highlights from my journey with NZRC so far include:- developing and teaching an 8-week driving programme in Spanish that helped 23 former refugees from Colombia get their licence over 7 months.- assisting 12 former refugee clients gain permanent employment, using short videos to get in front of employers. This beat our contract requirement for the year by 300% in only 9 months.- being responsible for community programmes across the Southland area, supporting over 150 volunteers- deploying during the 2020 Southland Flood emergency, performing liaison duties- recruiting and inducting over 30 spontaneous volunteer drivers in only a few days after the regular Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers were stood down for health risks during the initial COVID-19 lockdown, assuming responsibility temporarily for the delivery of 50-60 meals per day for two months in Invercargill- being seconded to help foreign nationals on temporary visas with the Visitor Care programme, traveling to assist different regions with setting up the processPrior to NZRC and humanitarian work, I completed a MSc in Environmental Science from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Both my thesis and internship contributed to two publications as a co-author. I also managed an 8-week consultancy project, commissioned by a social enterprise working in Madagascar researching alternative scenarios with high market-value crops for farmers to target.I was also a part of the winning team of the inaugural University of Canterbury 21 Day Business Challenge. My group "Bee Team" proposed reintroducing native, stingless bees to a rural area of the Philippines hit hard by typhoons in 2013/14. We visited the village to implement the project in 2015, partnering with a local university to train the community and provide regular support.I am now in a role as Senior Area Partner for Otago and Southland for New Zealand Red Cross.
