My primary task consists in undertaking energy audits for enterprises, with the scope of dentifying cost-effective energy saving solutions. The output of such audits is a report that firstly explains the flow of energy within a plant or a building and then identifies process inefficiencies. Secondly, it proposes energy efficiency measures with an informed estimation of their costs, savings and pay back time, taking into account possible subsidies that could improve the payback time, such as the Italian "white certificates" mechanism. Lastly, a financial plan is developed to guide the client through the investment phase.Cogeneration and tri-generation plants, as well as adiabatic pre-cooling panels for chillers, photovoltaics and heat recovery systems (such as Organic Rankine Cycles) are particularly interesting energy efficiency measures that are frequently identified and developed.In addition to this, I have assisted several clients by clarifying their doubts regarding their electric systems and energy bills.

This internship was a part of the MSc programme in Energy Management that I attended.I worked with the STEP UP (Strategies Towards Energy Performance and Urban Planning) team and assisted them to analyse the current political, economic, socio-cultural and technological situation of the city of Glasgow, in order to assess the impact of a major socio-economic change (e.g. a significant population growth) on existing and planned sustainable energy actions. The scope of the internship was to produce the deliverable 2.6 (analysis of two socio-economic scenarios for the city), which will be part of the enhanced Sustainable Energy Action Plan of the city of Glasgow, which is currently being prepared.Key skills included:- extensive data gathering, analysis and presentation to the STEP UP team (largely with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power Point); specific Excel tasks included regression analysis, extrapolation of growth trends and preparation of radar charts- use of PEST analysis to understand the main challenges to Glasgow's sustainable growth- preparation of two workshops for stakeholders’ engagement and consequent participation to these- extensive use of Microsoft Word during the deliverable write-up phase- speaking skills, used in one to one meetings with sector experts at Glasgow City Council and Scottish Power Energy Network, aimed at covering every important aspect of scenario analysis- respect of tight deadlinesI have also been exposed to the initial phase of the preparation of geographic information system (GIS) maps for the city, which consisted in extensive data gathering and elaboration.

My first task consisted in working with Edil-Clima, a software used for energy calculations of buildings, such as thermal resistance, transmittance and permeability of structures and primary energy needs for heating and air conditioning. Then, I worked with AutoCAD, both designing and correcting others' works. I co-operated with the HVAC systems designers: I helped them with their Excel calculations and they helped me in my research on the use of ground water for heating/conditioning purposes.I also increased my knowledge of HVAC systems and air conditioning principles by talking to experts, reading advanced books and participating to meetings.The feedback from the company’s manager was excellent, as he asked me to consider going back to the job after my master. He particularly appreciated my precision, commitment and punctuality.

Ho proseguito l'esperienza "diretta" del settore delle costruzione lavorando come manovale su diversi cantieri edili nella provincia di Verona.

I worked on a construction site, in order to earn money for myself and place less burden on my parents.I learnt what it means to wake up early in the morning and dirty my hands. Working side by side with people that were more needy and unprivileged than me helped me understanding what priorities in life could have been if I were them.
