Project Description: Increased demand from Corporate clients to provide a seamless, retail style, authentication and digital signing experience across all internet facing channels a centralised security service was required. The key goals of the service were to provide a common API that allowed ease of integration from existing channels and faster adoption of new security devices as well as greater enforcement of Corporate software/hardware strategies.Contribution: David designed and implemented the integration of the new service with the existing Corporate Cash Management channel. He further extended the service to implement biometric profiling of client sessions to tackle multiple fraud attack vectors. He worked extensively with Hitachi to design, develop and integrate a new Biometric (VeinID), PKI based, security solution to the bank as an alternative authentic and signing solution for clients.

Project Description: Following an EC directive the Bank was required to divest a segment of their customer and branch base in order to create a challenger bank. The project was to establish the new bank complete with IT environment and personnel using the source bank as a starting point.Contribution: David led the resilience and disaster recovery (DR), and contributed to the performance, areas of the non-functional testing workstream. He analysed existing resilience and DR artefacts and documented high level requirements as well as an approach for assigning them for both areas. David also developed risk based testing tools, estimation models and the non-functional testing workstream project plan.

Project Description: A major new internet facing Corporate cash management channel developed on a heavily customised white label product. Migration of clients from two legacy channels to a more feature rich, functional and data entitlement driven, offering.Contribution: David joined the project in a performance test oversight role, reviewing requirements, test design, and results. He then supported the remediation of elements within that application that required performance and user experience improvements as well as providing client support in optimising local and virtualised configurations. As well as establishing a performance and capacity reporting process, David led several optimisation initiatives involving Akamai and Gemalto technologies.

Project Description: A major release with significant architectural change, introducing horizontal scaling to core processing and providing support for a new XML input format. The application is written in C, makes use of MQ and DB2 and runs on a virtualised AIX Power6 platform.Contribution: David joined the project as part of a recovery team. He reassessed the design, carried out detailed performance analysis, scoped architectural change, and restructured the performance testing. He added a methodical approach to performance tuning and analysis allowing the project to move forward where it had previously stalled. David identified gaps in the monitoring and modelling and developed assets to assist in performance prediction and problem determination.

Project Description: The project was a major technology upgrade, hardware (Power5 to Virtualised Power6) and software (WebSphere 5 to 6 and Oracle 9i to 10g RAC), architectural restructure, active/active configuration, as well as functional enhancement of several key customer facing branch applications. Contribution: David led a team of third party off-shore resources in successfully delivering all aspects of non-functional test (performance, operational, security, accessibility). He defined scope, clarified requirements, reviewed test approaches and test assets and resource scheduling. He was critical in resolving key technical issues including those pertaining to system operation during disaster recovery and application performance.

Project Description: As part of a risk mitigation activity a detailed performance review and modelling exercise was undertaken to identify specific areas of concern or opportunities to enhance application performance. Contribution: David led the performance modelling workstream for the bank-critical Core Banking System (CBS) application. He worked with the client to understand the solution as well as the modelling and benchmarking that had already been completed. He assessed the data and concluded that the existing modelling was sufficient and recommended that any further efforts should be focused on other applications.David carried out a detailed performance analysis and system resource modelling exercise on another bank-critical application, Your Finances. He documented his findings, modelling out, and made a number of technical and strategic recommendations for the application and presented the output to the key stakeholders.

Project Description: The IPOS programme was a multi-million dollar programme designed to modernise the Store Point Of Sale solution, enhance and extend the existing Stock Management solution, to deliver enhanced customer service, and simplify systems/processes for staff on a platform which allowed for future growth.Contribution: David’s primary roles were Performance and Test Architect for the CSSM application. In order to demonstrate that the solution could meet the non-functional requirements, David led a complex performance tuning exercise with the third party development team and client architects. David was hands-on reviewing the design and implementation (.NET) of the solution as well as performance analysis during testing to identify constraining factors – this included code profiling, IIS, Windows, SQL server, VMWare and HDS analysis.David designed and agreed test approaches, and led the performance testing phase for the final release which was on the critical path for the programme.

Project Description: The Business Gateway project delivered a new SME business connection solution from high street shops and channel partners. The Business Gateway solution was primarily implemented on the existing Retail Stores infrastructure.Contribution: David reviewed the designs and business requirements from all operational aspects. He developed and extended the Common Shop Environment Operational Model to include the new Business Gateway elements, re-using the base hardware assets and technologies. As the Performance Architect David worked closely with the client and application teams to understand and document the non-functional requirements. Using this information he analysed the potential impact of a new application on the Common Shop Environment platform and the other components by developing a series of performance models.

Project Description: The Performance and Capacity team was responsible for the monitoring, analysis and reporting of the production infrastructure and the prediction of future usage through the introduction of new projects as well as seasonal and market changes.Contribution: David’s primary role was leading the Performance and Capacity function which included Oracle, DB2, Tivoli and WebSphere specialists. He reported system and business metrics, and resolution on performance issues to the client Performance and Capacity team on a weekly and monthly basis.David was also responsible for providing technical analysis and direction in the resolution of production impacting issues and performance modelling.

Project Description: This release of the Companion programme Involved major changes to the billing platform, customer care applications, retail stores application and online billing solution.Contribution: As a performance test specialist David’s primary roles were to contribute to the Detailed Performance Test Plans, creation, execution and analysis of performance tests using LoadRunner. He identified, investigated and led resolution to performance related problems across all WebSphere based applications. Defects were tracked and reported through the defect management process (built upon Test Director).

Project Description: The project analysed the performance and scalability of the telecoms customer facing internet architecture focusing on the shop, billing, and knowledge base functionality. Performance problems had been encountered previously and these formed the basis for the investigation and testing of the solution.Contribution: David’s role was to determine the key customer interactions with the site and to document, develop and execute a set of tests to benchmark the solution with current levels of activity. David documented client deliverables, including Project Definition Report, Detailed Test Plan and Test Exit Report. He was heavily involved in analysis of the production system, recommending and implementing performance enhancements.

Project Description: The programme integrated the wholesale and retail systems for this mobile telecom to provide a set of core customer service, sales and billing applications and migrated customers to the platform.Contribution: As a Performance Test Specialist David was responsible for the testing of the online customer billing application and the Kana Response application using LoadRunner. David gained an in-depth knowledge of WebSphere and was also responsible for providing system level monitoring for all applications under test.

Project Description: The Planning Portal site enabled online planning applications and information to be made available via the web. Performance of the WebSphere Portal application was key to the projects success. Contribution: David identified and agreed the key customer interactions with the client, documenting a series of test cases, test scripts and scenarios to reflect them. David carried out a set of performance tests to benchmark the solution with projected levels of activity on each of the use cases before successfully demonstrating that the solution met the non-functional requirements.

Project Description: This project was to performance test a Citrix solution designed to support 3000 concurrent users in an AS/400 environment using a beta release of LoadRunner to carry out the performance testing.Contribution: David documented the user transactions and created the test scripts within LoadRunner. David configured the load test environment, from a test tools perspective, and executed the defined tests.
