I always thought upon completion of undergrad I would work as a case manager, reuniting families of children in states custody. In my mind (fresh out of college with no real life experience) I would change the world one family at a time. I lasted a little over a year, lol! I ran for the hills and landed at an administrative healthcare company credentialing Medicare applications. No previous credentialing experience and no Medicare knowledge. Now 16 years later here I am- managing a team of credentialing analysts. Who would’ve thought?!?! As a credentialer I legit LOVED my job and I excelled. My favorite aspect of the job was the research and resolution of complex issues and also discovering techniques to simplify our processes. After about 11 years of credentialing a management position opened up and for some reason I went for it. Management is a different beast and is not for the weak. I am still learning so much- about leadership, being an effective leader, and most importantly personal growth. I’ve had and have the opportunity to work alongside some amazing people whom have aided in my professional development thus far. I perform a lot of different tasks and it varies day to day. My team is comprised of both temporary and permanent staff, multigenerational, and both remote and in office staff. In short I manage a team of folks who ensure ONLY qualified providers of service are enrolled into the Medicare program in accordance with timeliness and accuracy expectations. Most days I enjoy the work I do especially connecting with staff and helping them develop and truly see their own potential. I still enjoy researching complex issues and yes I miss credentialing a lot. But as I mentioned I’m learning so much about myself, growing professionally and am enjoying this leadership roller coaster I’m on :) Let’s connect!!!!
