Phd Student
Research area: Integrated powertrain controlPerformed the following tasks using Volvo high-fidelity Global Simulation Platform (GSP)• validating GSP for different use cases,• performing control-oriented system analysis,• developing a thermal model of engine and aftertreatment system (EATS),• automating the thermal model development for different variants,• developing input bounds and static maps,• efficient implementation of static maps,• developing modular control structure which reduces- cost of variant handling of the system based on customer requirements,- dimension of control problem,- number of maps and manually tunable parameters, and- calibration effort,• designing and validating engine-EATS supervisor which- exploits predictive driving information,- optimizes fuel consumptions, and- fulfills real-driving NOx emission legislation, and• coordinating Volvo researchers for implementing the supervisor in ECU.Theories used for research• Design and analysis of experiments,• Dynamic programming,• Direct optimal control (DOC),- Developed my own solver in MATLAB- Also used CasADi for solving the same problem• Pontryagin’s minimum principle (PMP),- Developed my own solver (solved two-point boundary value problem with several methods, e.g., Bisection, Secant, False Position, and Dekker methods)Few studied doctoral-level courses• Model predictive control, • Introduction to direct optimal control,• Introduction to reinforcement learning,• System development of electric and hybrid powertrains,- Project work: Component sizing of a battery electric vehicle powertrain. The powertrain is intended to be used in many vehicles of a future car-sharing company in Gothenburg.• Identification of Nonlinear Dynamic Systems.
Research Intern
I worked with Schlumberger's Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sustaining team where I• performed modeling, simulation, and signal processing for determining the real-time positions of thousands of moving underwater sensors, attached with flexible streamers towed by several ships,• used MATLAB while (few examples) reading an unprecedented amount of binary test-data in TCP message format, analyzing down-converted data for ensuring the test quality in real-time, validating the newly developed product or algorithm, and designing cascaded nonlinear filters for down-conversion and quantization noise reduction, and• used UNIX operating system while accessing the recoded data and reading the lower-level production software, for positioning and control, developed in C/C++.
Lecturer
I was involved in• teaching undergraduate courses on Control systems, Signal processing, Power system reliability, Electric drives, and Electrical circuit; and• supervising undergraduate projects, e.g., hand gesture recognition using neural network, motor position and speed control, and sequential control using PLC and microcontroller.
