I'm Keith and over the last 27 years of my life I have lived retail, customer service, operations, training, process improvement, and employee development. This life has made me into an effective leader and team builder. I want the keys to the castle so I can turn it into a kingdom.I go to work for two reasons, to provide for my family, and to help others. Over the years I have had the pleasure of working under many great leaders who have taught me so much. At the same time, occasionally running into bad ones who I have learned from equally as well. But just as my background quote references, don’t judge people by their failures, but only by their dreams. People don’t always know what to do or how to do it until they have lived it. That’s why it is so important to be available to help others learn how to handle complex tasks, how to navigate challenging conversations, and how to effectively be a decision maker who can lead others. That is my passion. I share my knowledge and experience with the leaders of tomorrow. I want to help people and do. I look for ways to make something that works well, work better. Stores, companies, operations, processes, and people alike. I've had the pleasure of promoting and developing dozens of today's leaders. My customer and employee satisfaction scores have led companies in both big box and boutique retailers year after year, after year. Continuous improvement is a strong part of my methodology. Every day I strive to make my good better and my better the best. I don't settle. When you're doing well, why can't you do better?I feel it is important to be passionate about what you do as much as who you do it for. I want to finish my career with an organization or individual that believes in its people, listens to them, and values them. One that is trusting, forward thinking, and excited for the future. One that values the word "team" more than the word "I". One that does not tolerate the ever growing “quiet-quitting” culture we are faced with today. Accountability and results matter. Differences should be valued. One that understands that the quality of life is as important if not greater than one’s salary. Store Team LeaderPet Supplies Plus Sep 2018 - Apr 2019Livonia, Mi, UsPet Supplies Plus was a return to my initial retail roots in pet specialty. It was also a return to a non-corporate environment as this was an independently owned franchise location.During my time as Store Team Leader I focused on creating a fun & positive environment for my team and neighbors (customers). I set the example for my staff by establishing and building the store's reputation for being neighborly, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and petcentric in the great neighborhood of Westmont, IL.I grew the staff from 11 team members in September of 2018 to 24 by April of 2019. I did this by first establishing a flexible work schedule that promoted a healthy work/life balance for my team. I then grew and developed the talent from within while eliminating poor performers who negatively impacted the business, fellow employees, and our customers/reputation. I then educated store ownership in the importance of raising their hourly team member wage up from $8.50 an hour to nearly $10 an hour prior to my departure.I then turned my attention to improving the high margin areas of the store including but not limited to grooming, dog wash, live animals & fish, and premium dog food. I actively recruited and hired a new full time groomer, lead the focus and execution of upgrading an aging dog wash area, completely renovated the tropical fish, reptile, & small animal habitats while establishing best practices and procedures, and worked with product vendors to help educate staff in the benefits of different brands of dog food for our extensive customer base and their animals. In six months with Pet Supplies Plus under my leadership my store achieved over 1.87 million in sales, a comp sales increase of 3.6% with a cost of goods increase of only 1.7%, a margin increase of 1.19%, an average ticket increase from $35.15 to $36.89, and all while transactions were down 620 to the previous year. I also helped increase live animal and fish sales by over 140% to LY during my tenure. -
