285 Kent was a pretty diverse and prominent nightclub style art venue for a few short years. At its inception, we filled it with hip-hop artists, art video games, participatory art installations, some avant garde, but more often just incredible popular music of all kinds, and proud to say we (at least Syed Salahuddin and I) were almost entirely presenting artists that were people of color. It was a space where well-known artists were regularly among the audience in attendance, and full of truly legendary evenings. Through out all the hands it passed, I think it was the best act booking team in New York.
