Having "retired" from KPMG in September 2019, I'm keen to use the experience I have gained over my 35 year career to assist businesses that are either private equity owned, aspiring to be private equity owned or looking to change their capital structure through a public markets listing execute their plans. Having been involved with private equity for over 25 years and having been an investor, an advisor and a CFO in the private equity and quoted arenas, I have a deep understanding of the differing viewpoints of the stakeholders that need to come together to create truly great businesses with the right capital structure to support their plans. I relish the challenge of leaving a valuable legacy in the businesses I have the privilege to work with and to pass on my knowledge and experience to the people that work in them. Brought in by Guy Hands, CEO of Terra Firma to help refine and implement the strategic and operational turnaround plan• Re-cut the financial analysis of the worldwide recorded music business to show economic returns by activity• Contributed to the development of a functional business model rather than a geographic model• Part of a small team reporting to the chairman responsible for reviewing proposals for investment decisions regarding artists and labels• Contributed to the development of the medium term strategic plan which led to the EBITDA of this £1.5bln turnover business increasing from £58mln to £338mln between 2007 and 2010

Dublin And Sydney

Brought in by COO of Terra Firma to assist the newly appointed CEO move the HQ of the business from Sydney to Dublin and build the infrastructure to support further acquisitions• Built new finance, tax, treasury and IT functions in Dublin with 12 new staff and 7 transferees (20% of the company workforce)• Implemented new accounting policies to enable listings in both Europe and New York• Reduced the use of acquired tax losses by more than $100mln• Managed transfer of operational business processes and performance monitoring systems to the newly formed teams in Dublin including enhancing and embedding capital investment and lease appraisal systems into the worldwide business• Shareholder had sufficient confidence in the newly built team, infrastructure and processes to acquire a second portfolio of aircraft trebling the size of the book

London And New York (With Time In Germany, Sweden And The Netherlands)

Invited to join Guy Hand’s Principal Finance Group at Nomura following work carried out on the acquisition of Annington Homes at KPMG. PFG had assets under management of over £3bln and made profits of £1.5bln between 1994 and 2001• Selected by Guy Hands to be part of the team that developed and implemented the work-out strategy for Capital Company of America, the New York based commercial mortgage securitisation business of Nomura. Acted as interim CFO for the $10bln enterprise value business• Chosen to be part of the team to execute the $4bln merger between CIT Leasing and Newcourt Leasing following the latter’s failure to deliver on its financial forecasts• Developed fully financed bids for a number of different European (mainly German) businesses. Managed the due diligence process, developed tax efficient financing structures, presented deals to the investment committee and rating agencies and assisted in the negotiations with vendors and banks

Joined Peat Marwick Mitchell from university, qualified in 1984 with prizes at both PE1 and PE2 (winning the Peat Medal for achieving first place in the final exams) and passed through the ranks to senior manager level having spent time in transaction services, corporate turnaround/restructuring, property consulting and audit.• Provided due diligence assistance on a number of major transactions (build-up of BUPA’s hospital and nursing home chains; flotation and take private of Virgin Music; flotation of WS Atkins) and refinancings (Heron Property; Saatchi & Saatchi and Canary Wharf)• Ran an audit department with 25 staff and re-organised the property and construction audit practice to improve resource allocation• Audit Manager for a number of listed audit clients in various sectors (MEPC, Virgin, Saatchi & Saatchi and BUPA amongst others) and involved in the review of many listing documents
