A dynamic and evolving non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating educational inequities by providing educators with the best professional learning, program resources, implementation support, and data systems to close opportunity and expectations gaps that lead to achievement gaps. To make that work possible, my executive colleagues and I ensured organizational excellence with mission-aligned strategic planning and budgeting, instituting systems and operational structures that make it easy for our teams to provide services to our partners and easy for our school and district partners to work with us, and fostering a culture around core values and a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity. Delivering on our mission with schools and districts, I directed the design, development, and execution of innovative K-higher education programming, instructional design, curriculum resources, and online and face-to-face professional learning reaching more than 7500 schools with 200,000+ educators to impact more than 2 million students each year across the U.S. In addition, 40,000+ AVID seniors--those most underrepresented in U.S. colleges by ethnicity and socio-economic status--graduate annually with a 93% successful completion rate of state college-readiness requirements and are equipped to design their post-secondary futures.Two recent pride points:* 2019 year end: 93,000 educators engaged in our professional learning* Over the last 6 years: 675% increase in the number of schools implementing our amazing program for long-term English learners: AVID Excel. 318 schools are partnering with us to ensure these students have equal access to rigor, support, and opportunity.

Aligning organizational resources, establishing program priorities, and building systems of product management and project management to scale our work, I guided our entry into eLearning with the development and delivery of online courses and the adoption of a learning management system; led the development of new K-higher education program models supporting English language learners, STEM, culturally relevant teaching, and career readiness; and launched principal and district leadership programs and coaching support. Pride points:* 20,000 educators experienced blended learning with the release of our online, asynchronous courses and we reduced expenses for schools and for us by up to 25%.* 40% Increase in our STEM Summer Bridge participation which generated an increase of students ready for 8th and 9th grade math and science courses and an increase in revenue to fund expanded outreach.

Focusing my expertise and passion on solving educational equity issues for some of our most vulnerable students--our English and academic language learners--I managed a multi-year grant and conducted research to determine interventions for lowest quartile high school English learners. This work became the seed project for my development of our 2-year AVID Excel program for long-term English learners in middle school as well as the curriculum resources and professional learning we now call Academic Language and Literacy. As an organization, our professional learning was gaining more traction and we were serving increased numbers of educators each year to realize our mission. It was time to systematize our practices for coherence and consistency so our school and district partners were guaranteed high quality experiences regardless of location, date, and facilitators. I led the development of AVID's Professional Learning Practices that are the cornerstone of AVID's face-to-face and online professional learning and have become the hallmark of our professional learning brand.

As one of the newest CSU Colleges of Education at the time, we were dedicated to building partnerships with local districts and schools to prepare the highest quality teachers and leaders for our students. With that in mind, I oversaw program implementation and articulation focused on innovative teaching, student-centered supports, community engagement, and social justice. To meet the growing demands of North County, I led the development and launch of a part-time, evening credential program that increased our teacher candidate enrollment by 30% and attracted industry professionals who wanted to transition into teaching. I managed partnerships with North County high schools to ensure a support network for 75-90 teacher candidates each year and supervised 3 university and 8 on-site supervisors of teacher candidates for a 98% successful completion rate of all candidates. Fun fact: a significant number of teacher candidates over my years at CSUSM have elected to serve in local schools and have progressed into long teaching careers. Some of these candidates have been my children's teachers, and many have become area school and district administrators. This is a university and program legacy, reaping the benefits of the investments we've put into developing strong educators so they stay in and grow our communities.

CSUSM's Distinguished Teacher in Residence program reinforces the value of practitioner/professor partnership. The CoE faculty embraced DTiRs and relied on the partnership to keep programs fresh and relevant. To that end, I led graduate courses in the secondary credential program focused on multicultural and multilingual contexts; the science of learning; the reflective practitioner; action research; English language arts; and interdisciplinary instruction, and I supervised and coached teacher candidates.Fresh off of redesigning and launching a whole new school model at San Dieguito Academy, I was able to help teacher candidates re-imagine the world of school and to envision a different kind of teacher-student relationship away from teacher-control to student-led.

As a district and school leader dedicated to building educator efficacy and student agency and belonging, I helped build and implement a full “school of choice” model (San Dieguito Academy) that transformed educator and student teaching and learning experiences and established a unique culture and outcomes that have earned the school a reputation for inclusion, diversity, and achievement that has garnered community support and ownership for more than 24 years.I also developed and managed schoolwide program models and professional learning to expand teacher efficacy and student success in areas of college and career readiness, equity and inclusion, and cross-content literacy, and mentored teachers and administrators in instructional best practices and culturally responsive pedagogy as a facilitator with the National SEED Project (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity). I ensured student success in 9th-12th grade courses in English Language Arts (college prep and AP), AVID, Student Leadership (ASB), and other electives using student-centered, culturally relevant, and high-engagement instructional practices.

Coming from two years of managing a franchise 7-Eleven store, I was able to guide the development of fresh, data-driven curriculum and best training practices to ensure new franchise owners would experience success in their new stores. I used the training practices and curriculum to determine and establish the anchor training stores we would use and to prepare more than 100 7-Eleven store franchisees, store managers, assistant store managers, and bookkeeping personnel in the areas of operations, retail sales and marketing, finances, inventory, and personnel management.
