About Mayra Romo
Mayra Romo has worked with survivors of domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault since 2007. She began her work at the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center as a hotline advocate, case manager and volunteer trainer. In April 2010, Ms. Romo began working at the Violence Prevention & Women’s Resource Center at Cal Poly Pomona as Assistant Coordinator and was responsible for campus violence prevention education and training. Currently, she is the Coordinator of the Violence Prevention & Women’s Resource Center at Cal Poly Pomona. In this role Ms. Romo is responsible for complete oversight of the center including staffing, prevention education, survivor advocacy, supporting Title IX compliance, training, women’s programming and administration. Ms. Romo is a state certified sexual assault and domestic violence counselor. Mayra holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from UC Santa Barbara and a Master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Community Psychology at Antioch University, Los Angeles. In 2011 Ms. Romo received a STAR award from the Student Affairs Division in Cal Poly Pomona and in 2012 she was honored with the Violence Prevention Champion Award at the California State University Alcohol and other Drugs Conference.

Serve as a lead contact person in all matters related to the Violence Against Women Act Office; Counsel students on concerns related to issues of oppression, other personal issues, academic concerns, and career interests; Assist with campus housing, campus law enforcement and judicial affairs to review sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking protocols and/or revise policies as needed to ensure the safety and support of the students; VAWA Campus and Community Liaison; Supervise 7 student assistants, 1 professional staff and approximately 20 interns/volunteers; Oversee two project grants and program budget; Advise Men Against Violence, Hermanas Unidas and V-Team student groups; Mentor students who are working on school projects related to violence against women; Compile program reports, including reports to Department of Justice
