About Mitchell Roodvoets
Taking on big challenges, digging into the details, and keeping the overall goal in-mind is where I do best. Right now, those big challenges include spacecraft system design and advancing human spaceflight. I will be completing a master’s degree in astronautical engineering Dec. of 2023 with concentrations in space system design and space applications. With this degree, and my experience as a naturopathic physician, I am adept at gathering information and making detailed trade-off decisions to meet the goal of the project. For me, this engineering degree is the final step on the path to my dream career. Since childhood I have been inspired by space exploration and the technologies that enabled them. Now I have the education and experience to be an asset to any company putting something into space, especially if it involves humans. From my masters in astronautical engineering degree I have performed complex mathematical simulations of orbits and spacecraft attitude dynamics, designed human space transportations systems, and written multiple technical reports and business proposals for new space activities. As a naturopathic physician, I saw myself as a systems engineer for the human body. Patients would come to me with their concerns and requirements; I would run the appropriate tests to determine the root-cause of their issues; then I would evaluate options for treatment and work with the patient to implement the most effective plan. I particularly enjoyed being a naturopathic physician because to the broad range of treatments we had available to us and our ability to look at the human body as a whole system of interconnected subsystems. I believe this gave me an edge over conventional medicine because we saw different connections between the body and disease. Naturopaths also had more “tools” in their “toolbox” of treatments, so we could often find one treatment that would address multiple issues.
