About Michael Pearce
I am a writer, painter, teacher and curator. I teach Philosophy of Art, Painting, and Drawing. It's an amazing privilege to be able to share knowledge and provide the opportunity for people to share ideas. I enjoy guiding my students as they learn new methods for solving technical problems and incorporate them into their creative work. I chaired the CLU art department for five years.I founded and chaired The Representational Art Conference series with the support of a fantastic team. We produced six of these international events, bringing together academics, artists and writers from all over the world. I curated the Kwan Fong Gallery for eleven years. I now curate occasional independent shows. In 2015 my book "Art in the Age of Emergence" was published. I have recently finished writing a history of the fall and rise of the American avant-garde. I write editorial journalism about art, recently for MutualArt, Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, Quillette, Spiked, The Martin Center, and the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.I make figurative oil paintings, working with traditional studio techniques. They are large allegorical narratives, using symbolism and renaissance philosophy as a starting point. My Secret Paintings show toured galleries across the United States in 2017 - 2018.My Ph.D. dissertation was based on British Neolithic ritual architecture and decorative art. I traveled throughout the British Isles visiting numerous megalithic sanctuaries, barrows, and chambered cairns. My study of these extraordinary places led me to the antiquarian writings of men like Stukeley and Aubrey, whose interests drew me into studies of the Western mystery tradition and Renaissance symbolism.
Listed skills include Art, Painting, Oil Painting, Art Education, and 37 others.

Secretary Of The Board Of Directors
I served as secretary to the board of directors of the Philosophical Research Society, a Los Angeles-based, nonprofit institution founded in 1934 by scholar and prolific author Manly Palmer Hall as a repository of multicultural wisdom sources and a center of learning. Since 1934, PRS has continually offered public programs for all lovers of wisdom on a vast array of topics presented by luminary speakers. The campus includes an auditorium, bookstore, lecture room, library, and gallery, all of which facilitate a full calendar of events. The PRS School fosters a worldwide community of seekers through its courses, and the Society continues to issue new editions and anthologies of Manly Hall’s work.Mr. Hall’s international travels culminated in a collection of manuscripts, rare books, artwork, and esoterica that became the foundation for the PRS library. This 30,000-volume collection centers on the world’s wisdom as it developed over the course of human history and offers contemporary seekers a set of uniquely curated resources for their respective paths to illumination.PRS was created to aid those seeking wisdom in the troubled time of its inception and those who would continue seeking practical and profound wisdom in the future. Through depression, wars, and other public crises, PRS has sought to preserve and grow our personal connection, so that, as Mr. Hall notes, “With faith, honesty, and common sense we can build a better world than any we have known.”https://www.prs.org/about-prs.html
