As the Chief Instructional Technologist and Building 21, I co-created the Learning What Matters (LWM) Competency Framework and the Building 21 instructional model, developed a Google Apps-based prototyping system for data dashboards, and designed a competency-based LMS within the open source platform, Slate. I am now leading an expansion effort to help districts across the country use the Learning What Matters (LWM) competency framework to personalize education for students.

The School of the Future Partnership Foundation (SOF Partnership Foundation) supports the programmatic, curricular, and technological needs of the learners at The School of the Future (SOF), a public high school in West Philadelphia, and provides opportunities for SOF to share best practices with the broader education community.The School of the Future Partnership Foundation seeks to provide resources to essential programs that differentiate SOF from other public schools in Philadelphia. SOF is uniquely designed to bridge the technology gap that exists in urban education, through a one-to-one laptop program and innovative approaches to learning. The SOF Partnership Foundation ensures that these important and essential programs can continue, improving the quality of education for Philadelphia students at SOF and creating educational opportunities for those learners and families most in need. The SOF Partnership Foundation helps to provide opportunities for SOF educators to evangelize their experiences and best practices for the broader education community.

The mission of the School of the Future is to question everything we know about education as being continuous, adaptive and relevant. The challenge is to truly individualize the learning experience for every learner.As an educator at the School of the Future, you work within a team to create engaging projects for learners that will give them skills that have been neglected by traditional models. These "21st Century Education Competencies" must be assessed along with content to ensure that learners are truly prepared for a quickly evolving world.
