I joined Kite Pharma in 2018 as part of a small group that started planning the construction of a state-of-the-art production plant. My focus was equipment purchasing/validation and material flow design for the future QC laboratories. Additionally I acted as representative of QC during the actual construction work of the QC laboratories. In two years time this plant was operational.In this time, we implemented a KanBan system for material management, that allows Lab Technicians to focus on their work while materials they need are always nearby. We installed and coordinated the IO(P)Q of around 20 different types of equipment, including flow cytometers, cell counters, qPCR and HPLC equipment.I focused on improvements (Lean implementation) in the lab, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and solve logistical problems of consumables for the QC department. I have taken an interest in Data Integrity and play a key role in improvement projects on this topic. In 2021 I chair the Kite global workteam on Equipment and Software alignment. Members from all Kite sites meet to discuss alignment.

Joined the uniQure Quality Control (QC) team as a maternity cover for the role of Raw Material Coordinator. In July 2016 I received a permanent contract for this role. Duties include:- QC inspection and release of incoming goods, including raw materials for manufacturing (GMP).- Documentation review and writing, including GMP SOPs, work instructions and material specifications.- Introduction of a new stock holding system according to the popular KanBan system.- Ordering supplies for the QC laboratory.- Assisting the Outsource Coordinator with shipping GMP samples to contract labs.In this role I move between several departments to make sure operations continue as planned. These departments include Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Supply Chain.

I worked as maternity cover in the Hutchison/MRC Research Centre in Cambridge. Some of my duties were:- Supervising media and glass wash staff on a daily basis.- Providing support generally under the guidance of the Laboratory Manager, specifically regarding facilities such as the Biomedical room and Liquid Nitrogen storage.- Giving Liquid Nitrogen and Tissue Culture Room training.- Assisting in preparation of media if required.- Using Oracle iProcurement to order and track consumables and laboratory equipment.- Arranging and supervising repairs and maintenance of laboratory equipment.Besides the duties mentioned above I also introduced improvements such as a new way of keeping tissue culture rooms stocked up and reducing the possibilities of infections. I also organised and coordinated the annual pipette clinic.

Uganda

Managing the volunteer program in Uganda. I've worked with seven different Ugandan partners. Each partner receives Dutch and Belgian volunteers on a monthly basis. My job was to make sure the volunteers work with the local partners without problems. There were cultural differences that I've managed, sickness and other problems that might occur. Besides that, I've managed and supported partner proposals, requests and share ideas with them. I have had the pleasure to welcome and work with 311 volunteers.Managing tourist travelling in Uganda. Be More organizes a special way of travelling through Uganda, called Discover. Besides all the beautiful wild parks and amazing sight seeing opportunities, Be More also offers a visit of a day or two to our Ugandan partner projects. This 'voluntourism' is a great way to explore a country and at the same time get to know the culture. I've had the pleasure to welcome 61 tourists.Managing Worldmapping expeditions.Uganda is one of the country where Worldmapping is organizing expeditions. These expeditions are meant for the youth, aged 14 - 18 years. A typical expedition exists of around 20 children and two expedition leaders. They visit our partner projects and see some of the beauty of the country. I was responsible for the planning, organization and well being of these groups. I closely worked together with the local support staff and project managers to guarantee the guests a beautiful experience. I've guided 9 groups of worldmappers.

Contributed to the research on the interactions between osteoblasts and prostate metastasis cells. Goal was to set up a model, which would make it easier to predict whether or not prostate cancer in a patient would be aggressive. Final internship - IBD groupToll-like receptor expression and functionality on colon cancer cell lines.Goal was to investigate whether or not current cell line models were suitable for research on Toll-like Receptors (TLRs). This was achieved by testing the presence of TLR in eight cell lines, via mRNA expression.Several techniques have been explored during this internship, such as; cell culture and harvesting, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, FACS analysis and plasmid cloning.

First internship - Internal Medicine, Calcium and bone Metabolism Group"Interaction between prostate tumor metastasis cells and osteoblasts."Goal was to investigate in vitro effects of co cultures of osteoblasts (SV-HFO cell line) and prostate metastasis cells (PC-3 and LNCaP cell lines). The techniques used were mainly cell culture, ALP assays, quantitative DNA and protein assays, and histological coloring.
