Leading a startup company focused on the commercialization of membrane-based thermal technologies developed at the University of Florida (UF). This effort has involved the strategic leadership, in concert with company ownership, regarding the development/maintenance of the company business plan, technology/research plan, and the establishment of business relationships. Activities have also included the establishment of company facilities, website, payroll, and processes; writing of federal and state grant proposals; the creation of subcontracts with research partners; and the program management of grant and company efforts.

Performing research in Absorption Refrigeration technology to enable the development of compact, high performance, low cost residential scale systems. A participant in ongoing research at UF to implement new fluids as the AR system working solution to provide the opportunity to tailor the absorbent property for operation at conditions never possible before, while greatly simplifying system operation, reducing system cost, and enhancing reliability. The goal of this research is the near term opportunity to build compact, robust, environmentally safe, and economical high performance cooling systems for residential and light commercial applications.

While pursuing a PhD fulltime, worked as a system engineering consultant in the design, development, installation, and testing of the training system network architecture for the US Navy’s west coast Littoral combat ship training center. As an integral participant on all program integrated product teams, this effort involved close collaboration with the US Navy’s building contractor, the training system suppliers, and the base; the interviewing, selection, and establishment of the program team; system requirements management (RVTM); and leading the design, documentation, and verification of the program’s hardware.

Led multiple simultaneous programs with a total value in excess of $40M as part of a small organization of <50 people. Responsibilities included proposal development, contract negotiations, program financial and milestone performance objectives, customer relations, and system acceptance/sell-off. Programs covered a wide spectrum including prototype and product development, production, hardware and software design, system development, test, integration and installation. This included the proposal, pricing, negotiation, and execution of the development and delivery of three full motion level-D CH-47D Helicopter Flight Trainers; the AVCATT flight control production program, delivering 20 configurations of product at a rate of 800-900 units per year over a 10-year period; the development of a USB desktop control product line; the development and implementation of set of graphic novels with embedded content on desktop and mobile systems to support the tactics training; and the transition of targetry manufacturing from Europe to the US for a large European Manufacturer as part of a long term partnership. This transition of manufacturing involved the establishment of a new global supply chain, in-house assembly and test production lines, and storage and shipping assets to support field installation across the US, within tight cost and quality controls.

Part of the three-person executive team leading the Orlando division. This executive team established the division priorities to ensure division near-term and strategic objectives were met. Performed the functional management duties for the division’s engineering personnel; staffing, directing, and managing the engineering team across multiple programs, and the implementation of division wide engineering design tools/software and design processes.

Led the internal research and development technical effort to develop a commercial low cost driver training product, and proposed the resulting product for a variety of applications. Part of a four person team that successfully negotiated the first sale of the resulting product to a foreign government. Led the resulting program's effort until leaving LM. Led engineering team of 60-70 people with a budget of $12M in the development (extensive hardware and software), integration, test, and delivery of five unique Armor Training Systems for a commercial sale to a foreign government. Part of the three person team which negotiated and signed the $35M contract while on site. First system was delivered 6 months ahead of schedule. The only program to meet all department commitments in 1993, 1994, and 1995.

Technically oriented systems engineer involved in proposal efforts including the direction of proposal activities and writing, system level concept definition, systems design, acceptance test procedure generation and execution, government meetings and site surveys of simulation systems. Site lead for the Platoon Gunnery Trainer program's field integration effort. Contributed to the conceptual design for all new major programs in both the simulation and digital controls business areas.

Led several small design/assembly teams in the design and prototype manufacture of Image Generation and Armor Training systems. Led the mechanical and electrical packaging design effort for the department's new line of low cost, high performance image generation computers. The design was accomplished under budget and on schedule. Led the integration and assembly of the trainer compartment hardware for the department's first platoon gunnery trainining system.

Analyst responsible for the thermal and finite element shock and vibration structural analysis of Mil-Spec shipboard control and motion based simulation systems. Part of a four person team that performed eight man months of effort in three weeks for the thermal analysis of DDG ship consoles to meet a tight program schedule. Performed finite element structural analysis of a complex motion based display system using the ANSYS structural analysis package.
