Principal Product Improvement Manager

Wilmslow, England, United Kingdom

I am responsible for driving the improvement of safety, performance, serviceability and usability for launched ToF products in the field. I provide a bridge between the field and the manufacturing, design and supply chain supporting functions. I have traveled to key customer sites during installation and servicing activities to provide guidance to field service engineers while gathering information for potential improvement activities. I regularly collect, manipulate, analyse and present quality data, such as complaints, start-up failures, instrument returns and warranty costs using tools such as Analysis for Office and Power BI to assess potential impact to the customer and business and coordinate investigation/resolution of any issues identified with the upstream functions. Where required, I lead the investigations meetings to prioritize and coordinate field issues, ensuring robust documentation and completion of corrective actions. I work closely with the Worldwide Global Services and Field Service Organizations to drive product and process improvements. I manage the initiation and closure of post market actions needed to address potential reportable quality events and have experience being audited by both internal audits and external regulatory bodies. I have gained knowledge in procedural writing and maintain continuous process improvement for various documented quality processes. I actively take part in CAPAs and CAPA review meetings. I have provided mentorship for less experienced members of the team, providing guidance on technical and procedural matters, and regularly deputise for the Manager of Global Product Improvement, presenting in extended management reviews & field management meetings.

May 2017 - Mar 2019

Npo Systems Test Engineer

Wilmslow, Cheshire, Uk

Working as part of a team to test, tune and calibrate Quadrupole-TOF type mass spectrometer machines. This involves receiving the completed Xevo G2-XS or Synapt G2-Si machines after assembly, conducting electrical safety tests, conditioning, tuning, calibrating and running numerous sample tests to ensure the product is working perfectly before being shipped to the customer. I was required to problem solve on a daily basis and replace numerous parts accordingly including printed circuit boards requiring ESD protection. The job required me to complete physical work but mostly control the instrument using a specialised software program. I regularly worked to specific written specifications and instructions and ensure all paperwork is present and correct whilst using GDP. I completed instruments in order to help my team achieve our weekly, monthly and quarterly targets. Daily meetings are held to track the team’s progress and I occasionally led these meetings if my manager cannot attend. I multi-tasked by often testing more than one instrument or part at once. Alongside working on the instruments, I took part in a variety of projects based upon continuous improvement, be that for the instrument or the wider department. Examples of these projects include an investigation into the link between collision cell pressure and quadrupole transmission (resulting in a change to the instrument specification), 6S reorganisation of the storage of gold brick parts and a time study into the true efficiency of engineers on the test floor, among many others.

Aug 2015 - May 2017

Maldi Test Engineer

Trafford Park, Manchester

I worked as part of a team to test, tune and calibrate MALDI-TOF type mass spectrometer machines. This included testing AXIMA Assurance, Confidence and Performance to particular customer specifications in a clean room environment. I was responsible for keeping a hand-written detailed log for every instrument worked on and ensuring all paperwork was correct. Additional responsibilities included maintaining an appropriate level of quality for certain parts and assemblies by creating spreadsheets to analyse pass rates, updating SAMIs, attending corrective and preventative (CAPA) meetings and liaising with the Quality department on a regular basis.
