PUBLIC HEALTH FUNCTIONAL MANAGER, AIR FORCE SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMANDIn my last posting with the Air Force, I headed Human Resources (HR) and Public Health Management for Aerospace Medicine's six clinics (Bioenvironmental Engineering, Dental, Flight Medicine, Health & Wellness Center, Optometry and Public Health) located on the Air Force's Special Operations Command base in New Mexico. I advised the Commander and command staff on morale, welfare, good order, discipline, and other HR topics. Monitoring health, safety and staffing conditions against standards, I oversaw operations and training for 37 Public Health Technicians in five locations worldwide. Additionally, I supported 14K beneficiaries enrolled in the Military Health System’s TRICARE health plan and managed the credentialing of 75 healthcare providers and reduced data base 63% by eliminating redundant information.

At Hanscom AFB, I supervised HR services for 27 aeromedical employees on USAF’s Massachusetts Materiel Command base. This involved administering annual performance evaluation reports, decoration recommendations, written counseling, and all correspondence requiring Commander approval. I counseled the Medical Director on effective group and individual communication techniques, Air Force regulations, military standards, and performance feedback.

Lackland Air Force Base, Tx

In this position, I oversaw operations of one of seven squadrons at the USAF’s entry processing station for basic training that handled over 900 new recruits daily. I formulated answers to base HR and quality of life issues, conveyed American Red Cross notifications, conducted periodic recalls for the unit’s 60 Military Training Instructors and organized professional development, recognition and promotion ceremonies. I also advised command on administration, resource utilization, management, legal matters, and business travel policy. As a First Sergeant, I directed the most challenging training squadron composed of "hold-overs" who didn't pass the Air Force's Physical Fitness Test, and those with disciplinary problems or medical issues in addition to regular Airmen.

As one of the USAF's few Preventive Medicine Specialists, I instructed Special Operations Task Force and forward-deployed U.S. Army personnel on preventative health and medicine. I was assigned as SOC-Europe’s liaison with Public Health agencies. I worked with them (and solo) to conduct site surveys, water testing and inspect food safety & sanitation arrangements at remote locations throughout Europe and Africa as sole preventative medicine advisor for 739 troops within 1.1M square miles.
