Online shopping is limited to eBay and any major purchases rely on searching mailbox catalogs for in store purchases.quote2.me looked to bring Web 2.0 to the world of retail by digitising catalogs in a searchable format and pushing relevant deals to interested shoppers.What did we learn?+Marketplaces are hard. The massive scale of a dominant marketplace is appealing but you've got to get 2 flywheels (supply + demand) up to speed for it to work+[Pivot] Shifting to a quote/bid model was much easier, at MVP scale, to link high-commitment purchasers with engaged sellers+[PMF not achieved] Value attribution for online middlemen didnt exist yet. Bricks and Mortar retailers hadnt yet got their head around this internet thing and every pitch+AM meeting required way too much education about the potential of online sales channels. Hipages nailed this model shortly after by linking a better target market (tradies) with a better UX (mobile app)
