HR platform migration ◦ Used user interviews, business process diagrams, data profiling and ETL reverse engineering to decompose the Lawson enterprise HR platform and various source systems that feed or draw from it – core HR, payroll, benefits, timesheets, absences and financials. ◦ Built current state physical data models (ERDs) of those sources, and documented data flows (DFDs) in and out of the Lawson platform ◦ Built future state models and data flows of HR system sources based on project functional requirements and related documentation. ◦ Performed root cause analysis and compiled “gap” reports comparing future goals to the current state, and proposed plans to remediate those gaps. ◦ Worked with project managers to document and track all work.Warehouse Snowflake migration ◦ Migrated the enterprise data warehouse from Netezza to Snowflake. ◦ Rewrote much of the ETL logic due to differing storage and processing architectures, provided new ETL sample code, and created updated data mappings for data engineers. ◦ Acted as project manager and interpreter for ETL developers, analysts and report writers to smoothly migrate data with minimal downtime. ◦ Created a demonstration ODS (Inmon-style Operational Data Store) data lake/staging area using the Data Vault 2.0 architecture. This included physical models, sample data and sample ETL code.Interpreted the on-premise Oracle Hyperion system configuration, administrative processes and automation scripts to support a migration to the new cloud hosted EPM SaaS platform. Primary tools – ER/Studio, DBeaver, Ataccama (profiling), Excel macros, SQL, Lucidchart, Azure DevOps (Agile sprint and backlog management), LeanIX.

Enterprise data warehouse ◦ Designed and implemented an enterprise cross-system data warehouse in Oracle. Later, this warehouse was migrated to Netezza. ◦ Used the Kimball method throughout – user requirements interviews, enterprise bus matrix and star schemas with occasional snowflaked dimensions where required. ◦ Integrated source data from diverse subject areas including client retention, provider recruiting and scheduling, patient ADT (admit, discharge, transfer), clinical records, medical billing and financials. ◦ Sourced challenging data from multiple systems such as billing data from a key-pair Caché database, and irregular financial reporting hierarchies from OLAP Essbase cubes. ◦ Profiled source data using manual and automated tools to create accurate source to target data mappings for ETL developers. ◦ Established a data dictionary and naming conventions, supervised data quality reviews, and trained report writers and analysts in proper use of the data. ◦ Designed a novel “business client” bridge entity to resolve differences in location/customer identifiers across four large systems. ◦ Designed a security model and controlling application to implement row level security across multiple platforms. This model supported controlled access to financial reporting, patient records and personal data, in accordance with internal corporate and SEC rules and PHI, HIPAA and Patient Safety Organization regulations.Warehouse Netezza migration ◦ Migrated the in-production warehouse from Oracle to a Netezza data appliance to satisfy performance demands. Redesigned the loading and refresh strategy to take advantage of parallel loading options, and rewrote all “last stage” ETL code to run on the new platform. ◦ Coordinated with analytic and reporting teams to migrate Cognos, Tableau and SSRS reports to the new platform.

Data governance ◦ Designed a combined program for Data Governance, Master Data and Data Quality. ◦ Advocated for and drove the adoption of the program, including designated stewards, automated data testing and notification to stakeholders. Created a 30 page color brochure to communicate program details – the importance of governance and quality, the various roles in the program and example tasks and reports. ◦ Gathered entity definitions, wrote data quality rules, identified stakeholder users and roles. ◦ Created templates for implementation of the Data Quality rules engine in Informatica and Cognos reports. ◦ The program successfully launched, but was quietly dropped due to a lack of management support. Ultimately, the effort was a reminder that governance is a people and process challenge, not a technical problem.Tools and collaboration ◦ Led the adoption of ER/Studio as a standard modeling platform. Leveraged the shared team repository, data dictionary and macro functionalities to improve standardization and workflow. ◦ Managed the repository and licensing servers, coordinated rollouts of new software versions and led sessions to explore new features. ◦ Tested and adopted many new tools and techniques – Ataccama data profiling tools, ER/Studio Team Repository, Azure DevOps, Agile/SCRUM project management, Tableau, Essbase/Hyperion, Visio, Lucidchart and Excel/Office VBA. ◦ Led popular bi-weekly working sessions with analysts and report authors to ensure continuing communication with end users and to provide support and education on the correct use of the warehouse data.Hyperion System Administration – Administered the Hyperion/EPM sytem for security and service stability.Primary tools – ER/Studio, ERwin, DBeaver, Ataccama, SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Netezza, Essbase, Cognos, Tableau, SSRS, Informatica, Visio, Agile/SCRUM methods, Excel.
