About Matthew Winchell
After graduating from Oneida High School, I had the honor of serving in the United States Navy for a decade. While on active duty I was deployed several times to various places including Iraq and Bahrain. After my deployments I came back to Central New York as a recruiter and a station leading petty officer. I was awarded many accolades for leadership, management, and my ability to work in a very demanding field. While on recruiting duty I attended college full-time and received an associate degree in Business Management.After my service to the nation was completed, I attended Syracuse University-Maxwell School of Citizenship where I earned a bachelor's degree in History. At the same time, I worked at my family business, Thompson Appliance and Furniture, where I was the Vice President in charge of training staff, ordering and purchasing, and working with customers to fulfill their consumer needs.My passion for becoming a lawyer stemmed from my time in recruiting. When I was a recruiter, I helped well over 150 people join the United States Navy, many of whom needed a path after graduation to become successful. I feel like becoming a lawyer will provide the same type of satisfaction I experienced while being a recruiter.I am currently working in criminal defense as well as 2nd Amendment defense. I am admitted to practice in New York State and in the Northern District of New York.
