During my time at the Fed I was involved in a variety of production, research, and volunteer opportunities. Production work:• As a member of the Money Market Analysis section I regularly used R, SQL, and a Command-line interface to manipulate large financial datasets and prepare deliverables to section Economists and our Division Director. • Scripted (in R), deployed, and monitored 3 models whose forecasts were presented daily to the Director of Monetary Affairs.• Used RMarkdown to write an update note on the performance of our section's reserve forecasting model.• Implemented error-logging practices in daily production scripts which allowed for faster correction of data pipeline issues.• Led a team of four to optimize internal financial briefing book in R, saving over 12 person-hours/month.• Improved onboarding system for entrant Research Assistants. • Served as the lead Research Assistant for an Economist's briefing to the Board of Governors. Responsibles included producing and distributing output on tight deadlines.Research work:• Saved researchers over $450,000 by writing an R program that used Tableu to acquire data from PDF documents.• Used Matlab to calculate periods of recession based on indicators for 30+ countries across multiple decades.• Performed analysis of the Federal Reserve's Securities Lending Facility through charts and tables in R, and presented findings to Economists.Outside of my regular work I served as Project Coordinator and lecturer for Econ 181, a programming/economics course that the Fed offers at Howard University. The purpose of the course is to serve as a pipeline for minorities in economics. I believe it is very important for diverse voices to exist in policy-related fields and as such was really passionate about my role.
