María is a Food Scientist (PhD) and a Veterinarian (DVM) with knowledge and skills in the fields of food quality and safety, microbiology, fermentation technology, animal and human nutrition, farm management and animal health, as well as in food law development, and conformity procedures. She has six years of research experience on food from animal products (Research Group of Industrial Microbiology and Food Biotechnology, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, and Department of Food Science, University of Liège, Belgium). María is author of six scientific publications in peer-reviewed and ISI-listed international journals. She was granted two scientific awards for young scientist, including a best oral and a best poster presentation. During her professional traineeship at the Food and Veterinary Office (European Commission, Grange, Ireland), she collaborated on audit and inspection in Member States to verify compliance with European food law. She is IDF Scientific Programme Manager since May 2016. Her focus is on the IDF areas of Sustainability and Standards. She manages the IDF scientific programme on Animal Health and Welfare, Farm Management, Antimicrobial Resistance, Environment and Sustainability as well as the area of Dairy Science and Technology.
