Course: ITL 512, Language-Literacy StrategiesCourse deliverables:- Create an anchor chart to organize and practice a language strategy. Anchor charts are ubiquitous in K-12 classrooms and will be a wonderful addition to your teaching toolbox. Anchor charts are interactive visual posters that help students organize important or critical information.-Discuss thematic lesson planning as it relates to educational equity and deeper learning. And create a thematic unit to make connections for students across content areas. - Take a small piece of your unit and build a lesson using the Learning Map Template to expand and explore your thematic unit.-Teach your thematic unit and collect student data. Analyze the student data collected to reflect on your instructional practice and ways to incorporate UDL (Universal Design for Learning) strategies. -Use and extend your new knowledge of literacy strategies by developing two student profiles (Olivia's and Santino's) based on assessment results. This week’s assignments are focused on two primary goals: exploring equitable assessments and diagnosing student literacy needs based on assessment evidence.

simSchool is a web-based virtual classroom environment populated with "simStudents."" simStudents have artificial emotional intelligence. They smile, cry, become frustrated, raise their hands, seek attention, and show signs of stress. They respond in very individual ways to tasks assigned, tone of voice used, and to classroom management strategies employed.Grounded in established theories of cognition, emotion, social behavior, and more, simSchool provides users authentic experience and vetted through a decade of continuous research, field testing, and clinical practiceThe characters are virtual, but the learning is very real.The Field experience modules completed were the following:(1) Classroom management (grades k-1)(2) Classroom management (grades k-5)(3) Classroom management (grades k-8)Highest scores received in these modules was 100% emotional gains out of 100%, and 100% academic gains out of 100%.

As a teacher candidate I acquired knowledge and skills to understand and begin to apply the Teacher Performance Expectations. We utilize the TPE’s because they also align to how districts will assess my instruction practices and readiness, when applying for a teaching position. After receiving my first teaching assignment, I will be required to clear my credential. The TPE’s play a huge role in my preliminary teaching credential process. Induction programs (for clearing my credential) will evaluate my strengths and growth areas as a new teacher. In my National University graduate courses, the TPE assignments prepared me and helped me begin my own individual growth plan in become an efficient teacher. The goal of these assignments were to help me unpack the TPE's and is to be able to articulate and talk about my own teaching practice using the academic language found in the TPEs.

During my internship courses on culturally relevant and inclusive pedagogy, I created this drawing depicting my teaching statement. My self-reflective thoughts on what pedagogy is/should be is as follows; "To teach is to Support and nourish growth. To teach is to provide the right environment to to help each and every single student flourish. Just like how a gardener waters and nourishes a seedling, a teacher also nourishes and supports his/her students' growth and development."
