About Michael Schechter

Scuba Diving is my passion. From the first time I breathed underwater on a regulator, even though it was just in a pool, I was totally hooked. I love everything about it, and love passing on knowledge and passion to new Divers.I was certified as an Open Water Diver in May, 2009, but have since advanced through the Dive Professional ranks, reaching the level of Instructor Trainer in Recreational, Technical (XR), and Semi-Closed Rebreather disciplines.My passion for diving has lead me to seek out new opportunities underwater, and I have spent time as an underwater photographer, volunteer diver for Reef Check California, and a volunteer public safety Diver with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue Dive Team.My formal education in Chemical Engineering has enabled me to really understand, in depth, the physics behind diving, which helps me make this sometimes complicated portion of training into simple to understand concepts.

Scuba Diving is my passion, so owning a Dive Shop just made complete sense when the opportunity presented itself. My philosophy, and thus my shop's, is that "We're here to make you a Diver." What that means to us is that we aren't here just to rush you through a program and give you a card. We want to move at a slower pace, with a slightly longer program, to be sure you have mastered skills and truly feel comfortable and confident in the water, so that Diving becomes part of your lifestyle, rather than just a one time event.
