Profile bio

About Rachel M.L. Dixon

I am all about the merging of technology with the good stuff - like music, words, health, language, and other systems. I encourage teams to approach their goals and challenges with curiosity and respect so that they connect with users, partners, and each other as collaborators. I enjoy using my big voice to empower those around me, and I build products that further empathy and trust. My recent work in design systems and accessibility at scale is a reflection of many of these principles. My background as a performing artist drives me to forever make things. You may have played one of the music games I worked on, learned a lesson through a playtest or workshop I designed, or read some of my creative writing in a lit mag. Maybe you saw me at an open mic, or maybe I was at a podium railing on about how agile could be a more inclusive system. My scholarly research is focused on how technology can aid community-building through new and not-so-new modalities of storytelling, poetics, and play (and how current commercial solutions often do the opposite but do not need to to make ze $$), using a postcolonial and queer lens all the way down. I am also interested in collaborating on research on how technology impacts memories, relationships/networks, reading, time, and the ephemerality of events - especially the fun ones (but I'm very serious about fun). I'm your true STEAM gal. More at racheldixon.com obvs.
