Supported the integration into Block as part of Afterpay’s engineering leadership team.* Considerably grew Afterpay’s cross-border trade products and introduced financial exchange products and services to the entire Block businesses (Square and CashApp).* Part of the engineering strategy team to propose a multi-year organisation-wide re-architecture including Square, Afterpay and CashApp. Significantly contributed to the de-risking and focus on business outcomes of the strategy.* Pioneered an organisation-wide promotion process for L4 engineers focusing on transparency and fairness. This process was praised by managers and engineers alike for its fine balance of minimal organisational overhead and maximum transparency across the organisation and adopted as the standard going forward.* Planned and executed product and vendor shutdown, supporting Block’s strategic decision to exit all European markets. Successfully transitioned 90% of the engineering team to other opportunities (internally and externally).

Afterpay (APT:ASX), a global leader in BNPL services, acquired Pagantis to enter into the EU markets, and I joined Afterpay to lead their International Engineering teams in Europe and Australia. Sold to Block (NYSE: SQ)* Built and rolled out the Afterpay product in Spain, France and Italy within a record-breaking 9 months, which was considered 2x faster than previous endeavours. * Introduced an evolutionary platform approach to the Afterpay platform and executed the transition to a global platform within an 18 months program. Highlighted as the best executed strategic engineering project in the 2022 Afterpay business review and also contributed to the region's profitability.* Managed a global engineering organisation with 80+ engineers in Europe and Australia fostering a culture of psychological safety and engineering excellence. Always in the top 15% of company-wide pulse surveys.* Introduced a revolutionary framework for a measurable and actionable culture of psychological safety and high standards, creating an environment where employees feel included, fully engaged, encouraged to contribute their best efforts, and safe to speak-up and challenge the status quo, resulting in high-performing teams and lowest attrition compared to the overall org.* Established Barcelona as Afterpay’s European Engineering hub, with >100 team members (and growing to >250 after the Block acquisition).* Successfully pioneered Afterpays cross-border trade and financial exchange products and services as the highest-margin products within the Afterpay product suite.

US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand (with Afterpay).** Scalability - From processing one payment per hour to multiple payments per second.** Adaptability - Offering different products per market and merchant.* Built and managed a high-performing organisation from 10 to 60+ engineers. Transforming technology-centric teams into a business-focused organisation that delivers customer value daily with low failure rates. Continuously achieving elite team performance level, as measured by DORA Four Key metrics.* Successfully managed an extensive Due Diligence process for product and engineering under very tight resource and time constraints and managed the acquisition in spite of the restraints generated by Covid-19, building rapport with key stakeholders of the executive team (example Afterpay: Nick Molnar - Founder, Carl Scheible - International CEO, Xin Ge - CTO). Delivered a very successful exit to the shareholders - Afterpay (APT:ASX) acquired Pagantis.
