About Maarten Sierhuis

For over 20 years, I have been leading the development and application of artificial intelligence, agent technology, and sensor technology to create intelligent personal assistants for various domains, such as daily living, healthcare, and wellness.     Co-Inventor and Principal Investigator of Brahms, a well-known Java-based multi-agent programming language and human behavior simulation environment in use at NASA's Mission Control for the International Space Station. Brahms is used widely by researchers and universities around the world.Principal investigator for the first distributed multi-agent system in NASA’s Mission Control Center for the International Space Station, responsible for acquiring project funding, the design and development, all interaction with NASA Johnson Space Center’s management for Mission Control. Responsible for managing the development and deployment of this workflow automation system (OCAMS) for automating the work for flight controllers in NASA’s Mission Control Center for the International Space Station. OCAMS has been running 24x7 since July of 2008 at NASA's Johnson Space Center, saving NASA millions of dollars in mission operations for the International Space Station. Co-Principal investigator, designer and project lead of the Mobile Agent Architecture (MAA). The MAA is a distributed intelligent personal agent platform for people and robots. From 2002-2006, managed a more than 20 person research effort. The MAA was used in simulations of human-robot exploration of Mars for the Mars Desert Research Station and DesertRATS programs in the Utah and Arizona desert. Personal agents were used to integrate human-robot interaction using natural language voice recognition, GPS navigation, health-monitoring sensors for both people and robots, as well as automating mission information flow via satellite.Principal investigator of the Individual Mobile Agent System (iMAS). iMAS is used as a personal assistant for astronauts, for health and life-support monitoring during Extra-Vehicular Activities in spacesuits. The astronaut uses natural language voice recognition to interact with his/her personal agent.
