About Michael Simard

Having earned a Bachelor's degree in Robotic Engineering from the University of Sherbrooke, I am currently pursuing an MBA at Laval University to enhance my business acumen.During my academic career, I had the opportunity to complete multiple internships at esteemed organizations such as MDA Space and the Canadian Space Agency, where I specialized in space robotics. These experiences provided me with extensive training in the sizing, design, modeling, assembly, and testing of robotic systems, ensuring their resilience in extreme environments such as outer space. In addition to my academic and professional experiences, I held the position of team leader for the ZEUS project—a semi-autonomous rover endeavor—and served as president of Robotique UdeS. These leadership roles equipped me with invaluable insights into the challenges of robotic integration and iterative management.Currently, I am the CEO of ARTIK Technologies, a company dedicated to developing a new generation of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) that revolutionize the robotics industry.

    Saint-Hubert, Québec, Ca
Training for the ESL position which is: - Providing engineering support in the Operations Engineering Control room at CSA- Flight monitoring (including following the execution of on-orbit operations) - Performance Monitoring of the MSS- Investigating and resolving on-orbit anomalies- Training of astronauts and robotic flight controllers on operational aspects of MSS
  • Robotique Udes
Team Leader - Zeus (Semi-Autonomous Rover)
    Robotique Udes May 2020 - Aug 2021
    Sherbrooke, Québec, Ca
    - Created and lead a team of 10 undergraduate engineering students to build semi-autonomous rover for the Canadian International Rover Challenge (CIRC)(won the first prize with flying colors!)- Coordinated the continuous integration of the different sub-systems (propulsion, suspension, frame, power, control, communication, arm, science)- Designed a first of its kind flexible 3D printed rover wheel which surpasses all other tested wheels (weight, performance, price)- Prepared and supervised the field testing- Highlighted the importance of knowledge transfer to the robotics community by organizing work sessions with members of Robotique UdeS (technical group)
  • Mda
    Cloud Engineering
    Mda Sep 2020 - Dec 2020
    Brampton, Ontario, Ca
Challenge: The Canadarm2 simulator needed to be available for public access and keep the simulator's algorithms secret. Solution: Brought the Canadarm 2 simulator on the cloud (created a full-stack (MERN) web application) but kept the "brain" in MDA's facilities.- Skills & tools: Matlab, Orbital Dynamics, GMAT, MERN (MongoDB, ExpressAPI, ReactJS, NodeJS, JavaScript, HTML, CSS), UI/UX)
  • Mda
    Space Robotics Engineering
    Mda Jan 2020 - Aug 2020
    Brampton, Ontario, Ca
Challenge: The number of debris a payload should face during its life was difficult to compute when using an electric orbit raising and thus could not be simplified as usual. Solution: Simulated hundred of EORs (GMAT) using clever techniques and then processed/correlated the results (Matlab) with available data.Challenge: A laboratory needed to be converted to collect video footage of an arm doing manipulations. The amount of feed was too high for using classic raw cameras/DVR. Solution: Selected and configured a digital DVR, a POE switch and digital cameras (all from Ubiquiti).
  • Mda
    Space Robotics Engineering
    Mda Sep 2018 - Dec 2019
    Brampton, Ontario, Ca
Challenge: During the testing of an ultra-precise space rotary actuator, the data seemed off from the mathematical models. Solution: Analyzed (Matlab) the tests' results and understood that the testing method was not appropriate. Modified test rig to use a more sophisticated technology (laser tracker with mirrors instead of proximity sensors).
