Martijn Snoep is Chairman of the Board of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). The ACM is an independent government agency with around 650 employees. It contributes to realising a healthy economy by ensuring that markets work well for all people and businesses, now and in the future. When markets function well, businesses compete fairly with one another, and people and businesses are not harmed by unfair practices. People and businesses know what rules apply, and how they are able to exercise their rights. The ACM ensures that markets work well by: 1) Enforcing the rules for free and regulated markets, and by promoting compliance with those rules; 2) Providing information and guidance so that everyone knows these rules, and is able to exercise their rights; 3( Regulating the energy, telecommunications, digital, transport, and postal markets in order to safeguard affordability, quality, continuity, and accessibility in these markets within the boundaries set by law and in close coordination with other regulatory agencies in the Netherlands and in the EU. In addition, the ACM gives advice to the Dutch legislature to improve rules and regulations if it believes that markets will function better as a result.

The Van Gogh Museum opened its doors in 1973, and is home to the world’s largest collectionof works by Van Gogh, with 205 paintings, 500 drawings, almost all of his letters (more than800) and a large amount of relevant documentary material. The Van Gogh Museum is alsoresponsible for a sub-collection owned bythe State, on behalf of the State of the Netherlands. The museum collection also contains paintings, drawings and several sculptures from the period 1840-1920 by Van Gogh’s friends and contemporaries, by artists who inspired him, and by those whom he inspired. The Concertgebouworkest was founded in 1888. ‘Royal’ status was officially conferred on the orchestra on the occasion of its Centenary Celebration in 1988. Each season, the orchestra performs 120 concerts at leading concert halls throughout the world. The orchestra performs for 250,000 concertgoers each season. The Concertgebouworkest Academy moulds young, talented musicians into successful orchestral players. Every year, Concertgebouworkest Young brings together over seventy talented young people aged fourteen to eighteen from all over Europe. The orchestra focuses on children and youngsters with its educational apps, Family Concerts and collaborations with schools. From 2016 to 2018, the Concertgebouworkest gave performances in all twenty-eight member states of the European Union as part of its RCO meets Europe initiative. In each country it visited, the orchestra performed one work with a youth orchestra from that country (Side by Side). Her Majesty Queen Máxima is the orchestra’s patron. The Concertgebouworkest is orchestra in residence at BOZAR in Brussels. The Concertgebouworkest is co-funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Municipality of Amsterdam, sponsors, funds and numerous donors all over the world. The largest portion of the orchestra’s income is generated by proceeds from the concerts it gives in and outside the Netherlands. In practice, the Board has a supervisory role because the day-to-day management is delegated to the Management Board.

Martijn specialised in EU and cross-border competition and regulatory matters, he represented companies facing merger control filings and multi-jurisdictional competition or regulatory claims, dealing with internal investigations, litigation strategy, policy issues, cost management, personal liability and follow-on damage actions.Martijn started his career at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, an international law firm based in The Netherlands with offices abroad. The Brauw has about 700 employees. He started as a parttime paralegal in 1990 during his law studies in Rotterdam. After graduating, he became a qualified lawyer in 1992, a partner in 2000 and the managing partner (chairman of the board) of the firm in 2010. In 2017 he returned to his law practice, working from the Amsterdam and Brussels offices. In 2018, he left De Brauw to work in the public sector as Chairman of the Authority for Consumers & Markets.
