*Fighting for student empowerment, teacher agency, and social good*Executive Director, Pennsylvania Teachers Advisory Committee*Editor: Flip the System US: How Teachers Can Save Democracy *Co-Author: Teaching in the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Standing at the Precipice*2017-18 PA Teacher of the Year & 2016 Top-10 Finalist for Global Teacher Prize*International Keynote SpeakerI am determined to make learning meaningful for every child and to empower students and teachers as positive change agents in their communities. My own students have gained international attention for initiatives that have included designing a bridge for a rural village in Africa, connecting with students in Kansas and Greece to provide clean drinking water for hundreds of families in the Kibera Slum of Nairobi, and starting a Distance Teaching Project that expanded to include videos from students on six continents sharing their learning with others. It is my mission to help children in every classroom have similar experiences. For my teaching work, I was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching in 2012 and served as the 2017-2018 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year. In 2016 I was named a Global Teacher Prize finalist and one of the top ten teachers in the world by the Varkey Foundation. Through keynote speaking and workshops, it has been a blessing to have the opportunity to share my message of student empowerment and socially-conscious problem solving with teachers, policy makers, businesspeople, and students around the globe. Outside the classroom, The book I co-authored, "Teaching in the 4th Industrial Revolution: Standing at the Precipice", has been called an "an authoritative guide to teaching practice over the next three decades" and has been endorsed by world leaders in government, education, & business. I serve in leadership positions for several NGOs and non-profit organizations, including as the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Teachers Advisory Committee, which is providing a pipeline to connect teacher voice with education decision makers.
