The application is the main reference for Nat Cat risk assessment in the Company. Continuing to lead the Rating Framework project, to support the transition of MS Office based tools into a service oriented environment.

Being part of Group Underwriting, implemented Swiss Re’s global property catastrophe rating tool, a calculation and memory intensive client/server application. Lead development team in the US and Switzerland, responsible for all layers of the application (DB, persistency, multithreaded services, web services to Swing and VBA clients). Worked on collecting requirements, planning, design, implementation, testing, rollout, maintenance and operations. Major exposure to Java, Swing Applet, Struts, Servlets, XML, Avalon based application framework, proprietary XML based communication, where we generated code for business objects and web services from XSDs and WSDLs (today’s classical SOAP based SOA). Invented, designed and implemented toolkit and generators for VBA code based on above XSDs and WSDLs to seamlessly integrate Excel and MS Access into the Java based services framework. Designed and implemented MS Access tool to convert various input formats into a Swiss Re native XML format for further processing.

Acquired strong skills in Project Management, Negotiation, Presentation and Reinsurance/Insurance Business on an international basis. Worked one year in a Dynamic Financial Analysis (DFA) team as a Software Engineer of their Simulation Toolbox and as a Business Analyst working with the toolbox itself (DFA of a German Insurance Company). Co-architect, developer and GUI designer of an online DFA Service tool (Riskport). We reused a C++ based library for the math intensive calculations, using RMI to connect to the Java based application server. Client side, I dealt with all the differences btw. Internet Explorer and Netscape (IBM Visual Age, Websphere, HCF/Struts/JSP, JavaScript, Java, Servlets, XML, RMI, JNDI).Planned, designed and implemented the Intranet for our division (ASP, Cold Fusion, Oracle). Awarded for effective design and timely implementation of several projects.

Part-time while studying. Consulting students in the public computer rooms and administration of the computer systems and networks at the University of Zurich campus and computing center (Unix, MacOS, Windows, JCL, …).
