During my time as a math tutor and a teacher candidate, I have come up with three core beliefs I want to implement in my classroom. First, I believe a teacher should be passionate about the subject they teach. My love for math is a driving force behind my decision to pursue education. I believe math can be fun and satisfying with the right mentality and mentor. I hope to inspire my students to find a love for math while working with me. Second, the classroom should be a safe and inclusive environment for students to feel comfortable to make mistakes. I plan to achieve this goal by having culturally responsive lessons where I can build relationships with my students free of biases. Finally, a good teacher inspires a growth mentality. Often in mathematics we have a fixed mindset. We believe "I am bad at math". My goal is to shift this attitude to "I am not good at math YET". Students should feel encouraged to grow their math skills and feel empowered to keep going even if the work is challenging.
