Profile bio

About Mitra Sato, Phd

I have trained as a scientist with focus on the genomics of paediatric-onset neurocognitive disorders. During my PhD, I built the largest UK cohort of childhood-onset psychosis (COP) and explored the utility of exome sequencing in psychiatric clinics. While the diagnostic yield in the clinic was low, the real value came from recruiting a diverse group of children at the extreme end of schizophrenia, all of whom are consented for future research making this cohort a rich resource for further studies. Additionally, my work identified novel risk genes for COP, with prior associations to other neurodevelopmental disorders, highlighting the shared genetic trajectory between COP and other neurodevelopmental conditions. Overall, my research lays a strong foundation for deeper insights into pediatric psychiatric conditions through genomics.Currently at Genomics England, I oversee the secure transfer of genomic and clinical data in/out of the Trusted Research Environment, ensuring full compliance with regulatory, security, and ethical standards. I streamline daily operations by improving processes, documenting workflows for the team, and leading system improvements. Additionally, I manage workshops, train team members, and contribute to policy development, enhancing the Airlock team's overall efficiency and effectiveness.

Listed skills include Dna Sequencing, Pcr, Qpcr, Western Blotting, and 16 others.
