About Mitra Sato, Phd
I have trained as a scientist with focus on the genomics of paediatric-onset neurocognitive disorders. During my PhD, I built the largest UK cohort of childhood-onset psychosis (COP) and explored the utility of exome sequencing in psychiatric clinics. While the diagnostic yield in the clinic was low, the real value came from recruiting a diverse group of children at the extreme end of schizophrenia, all of whom are consented for future research making this cohort a rich resource for further studies. Additionally, my work identified novel risk genes for COP, with prior associations to other neurodevelopmental disorders, highlighting the shared genetic trajectory between COP and other neurodevelopmental conditions. Overall, my research lays a strong foundation for deeper insights into pediatric psychiatric conditions through genomics.Currently at Genomics England, I oversee the secure transfer of genomic and clinical data in/out of the Trusted Research Environment, ensuring full compliance with regulatory, security, and ethical standards. I streamline daily operations by improving processes, documenting workflows for the team, and leading system improvements. Additionally, I manage workshops, train team members, and contribute to policy development, enhancing the Airlock team's overall efficiency and effectiveness.
Listed skills include Dna Sequencing, Pcr, Qpcr, Western Blotting, and 16 others.

Airlock Coordinator
CurrentAs a member of the Airlock team, my main job entails evaluating research outputs from a data protection risk perspective. I review the import/export of material (e.g. genetic data, statistical results, software and tools) from the secured Research Environment in line with the Airlock policy. I work with relevant teams across the company to support in.
Clinical Research Interface Coordinator
My role is split across two different teams: CRI and Airlock. Within CRI, my daily tasks include the management of the Diagnostic Discovery (DD) and Clinical Collaboration (CC) workflows. The DD workflow encompasses returning researcher-identified genetic findings to patients through one of several genomic hubs in the UK. The findings include variants with.
Phd Student
Thesis title: Genetics of Childhood Onset PsychosisIn my PhD I assessed the utility of diagnostic exome sequencing in psychiatry through recruiting families with the most genetic forms of psychiatric illnessess and examining how frequently we can identify a simple genetic cause for their complex presentations. I established the largest cohort of childhood.
Clinical Trial Coordinator
- Coordination and management of research studies on a day-to-day basis- Worked across a multidisciplinary team consisting of clinical and academic staff both national and internationally as well as study participants and their families- Identifying gaps and improving the running of studies through using my initiative, strategic and operational management.
