Educators have more power than just about any other profession to change the world for the better. We are privileged with teaching young people how to understand their world and advocate for themselves, and we want to be there with them as advocates, co-conspirators, and community organizers. We believe in anti-racism, ending the school-to-prison pipeline, learning loudly in public, loving enthusiastically, building community, restorative justice, GSAs, BSUs, civic engagement, vote16, Curandera history, using privilege as a snowplow, trauma informed practices, teacher leadership, Ethnic Studies for all, student voice, abolitionist teaching, reparations, Universal Design for Learning, universal preschool, and Black Lives Matter. We have been learning how to mobilize as a force to protect our schools, students, and selves because we are the ones who can. We believe that because we can change the world, we must take action. We are each guilty of all the good we did not do.We're writing curriculum, planning professional development, sharing school support strategies, supporting petitions, boycotts, & candidates, consulting on IEPs, and more. In 2015 I taught the first LGBTQ Studies class ever offered in a public high school. Through consultation and partnerships with community members, subject matter experts, and teaching colleagues, I developed a powerful and relevant curriculum that infuses art, film, activism, music and technology. This curriculum is available to be used by any teacher who wants to start the class at their school.I developed and taught an activism-infused, social-Justice minded high school civics curriculum, focused around creating opportunities for students to use their voice and experience to make change in local, state, and national issues. I have taught Modern World History and Government, and teach and write about LGBTQ Studies, Ethnic Studies, Economics, and AP US Government and Politics.I have been a master teacher to teacher credential candidates, served on arts integration and access task forces, and sit on several other leadership teams.
