The Health Disparities program aims to reduce smoking in groups where it is significantly higher than the general population eg mental health, prisons, lower socioeconomic and CALD communities. Whereas the general average is 13%, some of these groups are as high as 80%. I lead a team of Senior Project Coordinators that oversee a wide range of projects in our target groups.• Program-managed the program including forming and articulating goals, key roles, responsibilities, deliverables, timelines and reporting; budgets; liaising with community service organisation partners; budgets and reporting.• Participated in wider Quit business and strategic planning.• Established relationships with:­- Strategic organisational partners with expertise working with target populations. These include ACSO, EACH, North Western Melbourne Health and Orygen Youth Health.­- Government departments and agencies eg DHHS (Tobacco and Mental Health Branches), Corrections Victoria and Justice Health.­- Peak CSOs eg VCOSS, VicServe and VACCHO.• Reframed how we present tobacco control and as an organisation. Previously Quit was viewed as police, negative and controlling and only focussed on the health benefits of stopping smoking. Now we are more of a partner of choice that can help the individual smoker to meet the challenges of quitting and we can articulate more clearly the benefits that matter to target groups (eg financial savings). Developed a strategic communications framework to this end with Media and Communications.• Represented Quit Victoria on various external meetings. • Oversaw HR functions including recruiting, performance-managing and onboarding staff.

I provided and coordinated strategic advice on state and local tobacco control policy issues.• Prepared policy and regulatory and funding submissions for governments and organisations. • Managed stakeholders including state government departments, local government members, public servants and relevant external stakeholders.• Prepared and contributed the organisation’s policy submission and position statements as part of the national and state Cancer Councils into:­- Quit’s Tobacco Related Health Disparities Strategy.­- The joint Heart Foundation Australia (Victoria) and Quit Victoria Smokefree Local Government Project to progress implementation of smokefree areas at the local level.­- Various literature reviews on policy submissions written by government departments.• Developed relevant policy material for the Prevention and Cessation Program’s community-based training and programs.• Ensured the accuracy and relevance of all information prepared by Quit, including for media, resources and the revised Quit website.• Contributed to the development of strategic, operational and action plans.• Managed the Information Coordinator, consultants and casual staff.

I was one of the original team that established the headspace national office and the first 30 headspace centres. • Led external multidisciplinary teams to provide policy analysis to inform the CEO and executives on emerging youth and health welfare issues posted in political alerts, media and seminal reports. • Prepared policy submissions to federal, state and territory governments, research papers and conference abstracts and presentations. Coordinated contributions from a range of stakeholders including the board, centres and youth advisory group to inform submissions and present a united voice.• Raised the profile of youth health and welfare issues and headspace through policy submissions and contributions to other organisations’ strategic documents and position statements. • Liaised with partners including Suicide Prevention Agency, Youth Support and Advisory Service, Australian Youth Advisory Council and the Australian Psychological Society. • Selected to represent the organisation on the Australian Youth Advisory Council policy advisory council and National Eating Disorder Council. • Established protocols, procedures and mechanisms to support the national office and centres.

I reviewed the organisation’s research program. Ultimately, this had the effect of changing how the organisation funded research.• Undertook the organisation’s strategic planning to develop a new research framework, vision and strategy. • Reviewed and evaluated VicHealth research strategy, programs and schemes. • Project-managed two key research projects to inform the new strategic direction. Liaised with senior academics and consultancy firms. • Identified the organisation’s research needs and raised its research profile through facilitating change in the internal culture. • Appointed to act as Director of Research when the director was absent. • Provided authoritative advice and support to VicHealth CEO and Directors on internal research and the wider context of public health research agenda in Victoria and Australia. • Prepared reports and briefs for the CEO, Directors and Board on organisational research issues.
