Employment Security Program Representative/Career Counselor/Federal
As a Career Counselor, my accomplishments include conducting one-on-one assessment interviews with unemployed individuals, students, and transitioning veterans to create a personal resume that reflects their best talents and skills, highlighting accomplishments to get them the interview. My passion is to help transitioning military members, veterans, and their spouses with job searching, online resume submissions and locating resources that allows them the smoothest transition possible into the civilian sector. I offer mock interviews and accomplishment writing sessions. Accomplishments are key to building value, which is why it is my #1 tool is shaping and building client resumes. This allows my clients to have the confidence to move forward to discover their life's work. As a subject matter expert, I was honored in the Spring of 2020 to be invited to Illinois' Veteran Symposium to speak with our veteran specialist staff, educating them on the components of crafting a specialized resume for their clients, effective job search strategies, and interviewing tips.Additionally, I am well-versed in creating and presenting curriculum to the public for all facets of job searching, resume writing, and interviewing. These workshops are held in person and, with the pandemic, now available electronically. A sampling of the workshops include: Networking; A LinkedIn Beginner Workshop", "Surviving Unemployment," "Preparing for an Interview," and "How to Create an Applicant Tracking System Resume." Having earned the license, Federal Resume Writer and Career Coach, I offer a monthly workshop entitled "10 Steps to a Federal Job".In addition to being a Career Counselor, every effort is made to assist my clients in understanding the unemployment process and benefit program. Unemployment laws are complicated, at best, so having a trusted Career Counselor who is able to explain the expectations and processes is paramount in bringing full-service to my clients.
Airman & Family Readiness Program Manager
As the first Airman & Family Readiness Program Manager of the USVI ANG, my challenge was to establish a one-stop office for all aspects of information and referral, employment and resume writing, Career Coaching through the transition assistance program (TAP-T-GPS), personal financial resiliency, relocation, Exceptional Family Member program (EFMP), volunteer program, deployment support and crisis intervention. Effectively created strong bonds with military members, their families, veteran service organizations, social services, and the State Family Program Team.Maintained dedicated communication practices with all families through social media, monthly newsletters, and personal calls. Regularly met with family members over drill weekend to create and maintain strong connections to assist with needs and provide guidance.Successfully collaborated with the local employment office to promote career training programs, upcoming job fairs, and employment openings. This is a direct result of much collaboration and a strong working relationship with the VI Department of Labor, who allowed me to announce job openings to our members 2 days before they were released to the public.Effectively created and executed resume writing and branding workshops for members and their families. Established the first annual Military Family Turtle Walk that allows families to enter a protected area of the island escorted by natural resource authorities to view nesting Leatherback sea turtles. Successfully developed and trained the first Key Spouse/Key Volunteer program team that consisted of military spouses and family.
