A lifelong resident of Rhode Island, Tonya King has decades of experience working to empower others, bridge communities and build relationships. She is an experienced mediator and conflict resolution trainer who has used her skills to train police officers and public officials in South Africa, as well as hundreds of Rhode Island residents. She believes that diversity is our strength and that being kind and patient with each other are essential to creating a culture of respect.Over the past 30 years, Tonya has worked as an advocate for peace. Most recently, Tonya has served as the executive director at the RI Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV). During her tenure, Tonya led RICADV’s strategic vision and mission, working to fulfill mission to end domestic violence.Tonya has always displayed her desire for community work and enhancing the lives of others with her leadership roles at the Center for Mediation and Collaboration, Providence Black Repertory Company, OIC of Rhode Island, and the Greater Providence YMCA of Rhode Island. She served the Providence Police Department (PPD) and its residents as an officer for twenty years, where she used her leadership and collaborative skills to rebuild and strengthen relationships between the PPD and the community.Tonya is currently the Vice President of Programs and Membership at the National Network To End Domestic Violence where she continues to share her passion for empowering others, bringing people together, and working to create a world free from violence.
