Within Elanco, the CTO and CISO roles are combined.Elanco IT is positioned as a market differentiator, delivering value through the creation of innovative digital products, services and insights that help to transform the well-being of animals, people, and our planet.The role of the CTO aims to bridge the gap between business and technology, supporting business development and being accountable for the overarching technology strategy, including investments, architecture, engineering, and external engagement.Responsibilities include Enterprise Architecture, which is comprised of Business Process, Solution, Data, and Domain architects, covering all Business Functions.The architecture community maintains a framework of authority and accountability that defines and controls the outcomes of information technology, ensuring that prioritised initiatives have the required sponsorship to succeed.Alongside the architecture community, I provide leadership across engineering, which covers the design and delivery of IT infrastructure, Industrial Control Systems (Operational Technology), and digital products (internal/external).In addition, I lead the enterprise governance for the use and development of Artificial Intelligence, reporting directly to the Governance Committee, as part of the Board of Directors.As CISO, I lead Information Security and am accountable for cybersecurity governance, risk and compliance, architecture, and operations, covering detection and response, data protection, vulnerability management, and digital forensic analysis.In partnership with Privacy, Legal, Audit and Compliance, I am accountable for company-wide cybersecurity awareness and education, including regular engagement with Executive Leadership, the Board of Directors, and investors.Finally, the combined role includes a focus on innovation and external engagement, helping to identify and realise strategic investments that position Elanco as a leader in the animal health market.

I was responsible for technology architecture, which involves defining and maintaining the vision, through the creation of a reference architecture, principles, standards, positioning, and patterns. These concepts were cascaded across the IT community, providing direction, and driving better strategic decision making, by triggering the right solution architecture conversations.In JAN-2018, I became the Lead Architect for Global IT, which commanded a yearly budget of $300million+, covering Emerging Technologies, Cloud, Hosting, Workplace, Networking, Messaging, Collaborations, Service Management, Data, Financial Services, and Data Centres.I was accountable for the Global IT strategy, as well as providing architectural oversight for key enterprise initiatives, such as Cloud Transformation, Application Modernisation, Network Redesign, Workplace Productivity Strategy, etc.

In 2017, I founded the UK Enterprise Architecture Forum, which connected IT Architects across the UK through digital channels and quarterly meetings.The forum was coordinated and facilitated by the community, with no vendor bias. Meeting agendas were crowdsourced and voted upon by the members. Previous topics have included: Cloud Architecture, DevOps, Application Modernisation, Talent Recruitment, as well as time-sensitive topics such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).The forum included 37 members, across 26 companies.

In 2016, Eli Lilly renewed its commitment to people development, with a focus on technical career paths. This initiative is known as PEP (People Empowerment Programme).I created and led the global architecture and software development apprenticeships.Each apprenticeship included a self-service training curriculum, mentors and a suite of challenges that enable the apprentice to gain real-world experience within the specific discipline.Due to the global nature of the apprenticeships, digital channels were leveraged to ensure frequent engagement, with gamification techniques providing an additional incentive to drive personal development.The apprenticeships included 30 individuals, covering the US, Europe, India, China, and Japan.

Alongside my role as an Enterprise IT Architect at Eli Lilly, I led the Accelerated Development Programme, which was a two-year process focused on identifying and developing leaders of the future from across the globe.I was responsible for the planning and execution of the curriculum, which included over 100 hours of activities to facilitate development and provide exposure to business-critical processes, services, and operations.Every six months the programme included a challenge and assessment, providing participants the opportunity to champion new ideas and improving the visibility of their achievements with senior leadership (helping to drive succession planning).The Accelerated Development Programme included 15 individuals per year, covering Europe, India, China, and Japan.

I was the co-founder and lead IT Architect for Cirrus, a CTO sponsored organisation that aims to identify, embed and scale emerging and transformative technologies across Eli Lilly.Within this role, I was responsible for the delivery of an Enterprise Application PaaS, transitioning development from Waterfall to Scrum Agile and introducing DevOps, which included the associated tooling (ALM, SCM, CI, Source Code Analysis and Automated Testing).Alongside Cirrus, I was the lead Salesforce.com architect for Global Commercial Operations (GCO), which delivers customer-focused solutions and services, specifically customer relationship management, call centres, and marketing automation.This role covered the full Salesforce.com ecosystem, specifically Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud and the Platform (Force.com and Heroku), as well as Veeva CRM (supporting over 16,000 sales representatives globally).

Alongside my role as an IT Architect for Cirrus and Global Commercial Operations (GCO), I led the UK IT Student programme.I was responsible for student marketing, recruitment, development, mentoring and talent assessment, as well as expense and budget administration.The programme receives approximately 375 applications per year, which were narrowed down to 30 roles across 16 IT departments.I designed a structured development curriculum which provides the students with over 100 hours of activities and challenges, as well as offering one-to-one mentoring for each student in the programme.

As a Cisco Certified Solution Engineer, as part of Global Network Services (GNS), I was primarily responsible for the design and implementation of enterprise solutions. I supported internal business partners across the globe in over 150 affiliates, translating their business needs into IT solutions, based on Cisco's Service-Oriented Network Architecture. I was also the global service owner for remote access and web security, in which I was responsible for service management, escalations and maintaining quality processes.Finally, I was a student supervisor, responsible for their personal management, as well as acted as a mentor to several other students, helping to further develop their potential.
